Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li3910

PostAuthor: Irish Alan » May 13, 2009, 7:26 am

I'm thinking of the Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO Li 3910 NR008. Fujitsu-Siemens 18.4" display....

A mere €600.

In my view large lap tops are scaled down portable desk tops. If ones travel needs don't preclude taking a large laptop it could be the way to go. The two years prior to my retirement here in Thailand I was making 6 to 7 trips a year. For me a small laptop was the answer and once I relocated I invested a 20" LCD and external keyboard, wala a poor mans desk top. Sony makes a dandy 20" (I think) LCD TV that can double as a monitor, not a bad way to go.

I brought A Fujitsu Siemans Amilo pi Centrino Duo 15 months ago........the internal wireless card gave up after 10 months, called FJ no problem(and nice people at the end of the phone) do it under warranty....had to be sent to Germany would loose it for a few weeks, errrrr no thanks as local guys can do in an hour , for the last 6 months it shuts off if not connected to the mains via the charge lead...just goes off, also had a little trouble with left click button (could of been toast crumbs in there though as the little one plays games on it whilst eating toast..lol) its been good and it gets used around 12 hours per day everyday so a bit of wear and tear is showing, internal stuff is ok, would i buy another one..?.probably will look at another brand when the time comes.

Thanks for the replies lads. BM, you got me thinking. The 2 things that initially attracted me was a larger 320GB HDD, 4GB of memory and that 18.4" display for my failing eyesight. A mate of mine just bought a Toshiba and it is a lovely machine. I just realised that almost the equivalent spec Toshiba would be €80 more expensive, I thought it was more. I think it would be worth it for what I believe to be better quality. Only difference is the Toshiba has a 17" screen. However I'm sure I can handle a 1.4" reduction in size without feeling a big difference.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Fujitsu-Siemens product (and I work for Siemens). :fryingpan:
..For info Siemens has just sold it's share in the FSC venture and so everything will be branded as Fujitsu going forward.

I've just bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro - P300. Has a 17" display and is far far better then any of dozens of Fujitsu-Siemens stuff I've worked with.

Have also got an Asus Eee PC Netbook and these things are great as a 2nd pc for when your travelling or out-and-about.

Another reason i picked the Fujit was it had louder speakers than the others at the time.
