Spot Image and DigitalGlobe are two of the companies that provide sat images to Google for mapping. Check the boxes and they provide the boundaries and dates of the various images.

Well so much for the fun of guessing.. But thanks, dbriggins for that good information. I also noticed much more that I didn't know about.

You can slow your computer down to an absolute crawl with all the options on Google Earth. There is also a flight simulator in the newer versions, giving you the option of a jet or a prop plane. Instructions are at http://earth.google.com/intl/en/usergui ... index.html

I've upgraded to the 'newer' version of Google Earth and am having a problem. In the old version I was able to 'tilt' the surface to see the general height of buildings in various cities and I could also "fly" down the streets between the buildings. Now I can't seem to 'tilt' the surface any longer. Did they remove this function from the newer version?

"ALT-Page Down" will tilt your point of view. The little bar graph over the compass in the upper right hand corner also does it.

With the new google earth pics of udon, i can now find my fishing spots (saman farm and orchid Hut). Seen a lot of other lakes, wonder who owns them...

Just upgraded to the newest version..

it now shows the approx date when the image was taken, also sky and earth option, but no slider above compass in right hand corner though...Alt and PgDn then control with compass works a treat for tilt....and Alt PgDn again to exit tilt.

8)

I really enjoy maps also, Mainer, and always wished I had become a cartographer.

Me too. Google Earth is the coolest thing since toilet paper.

I agree. I think the older version is better...easier to explore.
