Finally... Google Earth (downloadable free) has higher resolution images of Muang Udon.. It appears the imaging may be around 2.5 to 3 years old but the resolution is quite good... Don't have Google Earth?? go here to here

Yep - much better now, and it does look like about 3 years ago.

I would think it would be a fun thing to try and narrow down the the time when the updated photos of Udon on Google Earth were taken. For instance, if someone had a house built, it would either be in the photo or not. We, as readers could post dates such as prior to 3/07 or after 7/05, etc.

Examples would be the stage of construction of the fly-over at Big C or the new Index building.

I personally love maps and photos of the earth, and can spend hours 'browsing'. If there are others who would like to join in on this suggestion, have a go at it.

There's a new house across the street from our place and my wife says it was built approx. 3 years ago... in the map it's still a vacant lot but it looks to be undergoing some ground work.

I really enjoy maps also, Mainer, and always wished I had become a cartographer.

Pakawala, I have become a cartographer (of sorts) since I arrived in Udon about 4 years ago. I ride around Udon with my GPS attached to the handlebars of my bicycle and have have made quite a large and detailed map of Udon city and surroundings. I upload them to files on my pc and with a mapping program am able to view them.

Great fun for me. We all need hobbies here.

Bobay (sp) looks to be complete and when I moved here Feb. 2005 there was no Bobay. Since the sun appears to be a bit south I'm guessing Winter 2005/2006. Just a WAG;o)

11/28/2005, according to Google Earth. The original overlay was 11/10/2002.

In the "Layers" section of Google Earth is a check box for "More" Expand that and it shows "US Government" "Alternative Place Names" "Spot Image" "Digital Globe Coverage" and "Tracks 4 Africa"

Spot Image and DigitalGlobe are two of the companies that provide sat images to Google for mapping. Check the boxes and they provide the boundaries and dates of the various images.
