Gps Map Source

PostAuthor: git » March 15, 2009, 12:58 pm

Didn't think I had it.

Turns out I had sitting here all the time. Problem is I have the Thai map in the GPS so when I try to load it, it runs out of room. There is a custom upload. That would solve the probelm but I have no idea which files to keep and which ones not to load. At this point I have get rid of what I have in the GPS now unless I want to find a route in America

Everything is backed up on disc. So that part doesn't scare me.

I'm trying a second down load now I deleted a lot of files that haven't been used for years from my documents. But I think the problem is going to be in the GPS memory not the computer we will see.

But in any event I will still have to get rid of the Ameican maps not going to help me much here.

Does anyone know what those files would be listed as? I want to keep the map source capabilty

Are you running out of memory with a Zumo? If that is the case, you can simply put in a bigger memory card. I'm sure it will take a 4 gigabyte. That is plenty of room for the US map and any other maps you want.

Exactly what are you trying to load. My Nuvi has 2 gigabyte of internal memory and it holds both the US and Thai map. I have a 4 gigabyte card that I use for music and audio books. You can put maps on the card if necessary.

This is where things stand now Map source is laded o my compure s i the raining cener. I only wiant to use it wht the Thai map. I have taken the North American Map out of the Zumo 450. My unit was purchaed in the sates

Regarding the map you got from anthony,if it is a single file called gmapsupp.img or gmapbmap.img it will be useless to you.You will need to convert it to mapsource format. Therefore take alook at my previous posts in the same topic and do a [b
]google for gmaptool, cgpsmapper and mapset toolkit and you will find a tutorial [/b]
about how to make the above mentioned files mapsource ready

This is thre part I'm missing but since all I know how to do is turn this thing on. I would be pretty nervous to try this on my own. I don't even understand the language.

I don't know who Anthony is? Anything you delete from your computer is not a big deal because you can always re-install Mapsource. If you want to put the ESRI map on your computer, that will be a problem because it will need to be hacked and I don't know how to do that. I know it can be done but I'm not techie enough to do it.

I have never deleted files from my GPS because I wouldn't know how to put them back on. That said, the Thailand map from ESRI is easy to transfer from the ESRI CD. The instructions are on the CD. If you have problems, you could contact Art at Gadgetrend and I'm sure he will help you.

I also have not been able to take the US map from my Nuvi GPS and transfer it to my computer. I am able to do that from the 2610 Street Pilot but the newer models are NOT the same. The 2610 is much easier to work with. Everything is on the memory card and transfers back and forth between the computer and GPS are easy. I have a CD with the US map for the 2610 but the map on the Nuvi was already installed with no CD with the unit.

Does you Zumo work now?

I copied eveyhting to CD before U stated I had to take out the Norht Amercian map in oder to put the Thai map in. Tha wasn't hard and when you buy a GPS in the states they give the CD with map on it as well.

No big deal all map source allows yuo to do is trip plainning on he computer where things are easy to see. You can sit a way point with a mouse ckick. Once you have the route figured out then transfrer the Route to the GPS/

Fo example say I want to go to Hua Hin the GPS right now will route me thriugh Bangkok,. That is the lat palce I want to e on a bike to many strange regulations. But if I route around Bangkok not bad a\t all. But I have to knw the cities to do that.

Just easier to see that on a larger map. In map source yuo only hae to do it once.

Gps is working fine. It is language problem between programs and far beyond me. No hurry I have until October. If I haven't solved the problem by then I will p bring a progammer a let hioim o work it out. Sometimes I try to learn things farr beyond my capailbities. Got through 2/3 of this one. but it's all got to be there to amke i work.

Once you have the Garmin GPS Map source is free. However Garmin is no longer making the Thai map. Like I said no big deal really surprised I got this far LOL

If you guys dont have map sourec sure makes hings eaoer but with the thai map you might just in into this. The Zumo 450 wa only 12K baht in the states a lot less then here.

The guys that I have seen so far Gadget trend loads the maps but they don't give the CD I think the current map is a ESSI program something like that

They also don't tell you can get a Thai map for 3K they sell the asia map for 7K. Ok if you want to travel to neighboring countries. But they have the 3K ,map if you ask.

So at worse case scenario I can get the 3K map form them if it has the right map source.

2610 is a good GPS but not fro bikes the 450 is waterproof and built specifically for biles. It also comes with a handle bar mount that is the power source from the bike. An Extra sold here, that they get with every unit they order. I may have to go to Gadget Trend don't know but I will avoid it for just a long a I can.

I just assume anything they doo is 100% over y the true cost, kind of makes me angry since you consider the darn things are made in China and I can buy for less then wht they cost here in the states.

If I ever work it out I will post the solution.

Keep in touch and let me know what you learn. I paid Gadgetrend the 7,000 baht for their map. That included one free update which I already got. They did send me the CD for the original and another for the update. It works fine to put the map and update on the GPS but there is no way to install it into Mapsource on your computer without having to crack it. That sucks but that's the way it is. I do have the Rotweiler Map on my computer. I had problems using it on my GPS but works fine on my computer. I can transfer waypoints and routes back and forth.

I have a Nuvi 750 that is NOT waterproof. The 2610 is waterproof and many use it on motorcycles. There is a Garmin handlebar mount available for the 2610.

Does your map hava all of Asia on it if so we have the same one. Do you know what company made the map.

This what the guy that I got the map from had to say about I will try again but I couldn't find anything in Garmin about it. I think thats the key figuring out how to down load the language gap between the two

hi ray,
its a garmin map i believe. best thing to do is copy all your existing files from zumo to your pc (as a back up)
then delete the files from your garmin...
then load that newest file....

The Thailand map Garmin was selling came from ESRI. Gadgetrend sells the ESRI Thailand map. It is only the Thailand map. I have never seen the S.E Asia map other than what Rotweiler has. His is called IndoChina. That map is not locked and you can download it and quite a few other maps if you want them. Only his Thailand map is locked.
