Where in Udon and how much? Monthly rates, joining fees? I'm not talking about excercise rooms but places with iron weights and the whole niner!

Forget it. There isn't a hardcore gym here. There are lightweight fitness rooms at several of the hotels and one shophouse gym with home-grade cardio equipment and a few multi-gym machines. Vientiane has a real hardcore plate-head gym, but that's a bit of a commute. I am amazed that there isn't a serious gym here. You could make some $ with one and a few trained trainers to help with post-physical therapy workouts.
If you are going to be here for a while, build a home gym like I did. Check the classified ads here as one guy has a squat rack for sale with oly bar, bench, plates and dumbbells.
I bought a bench, bar, plates, dumbbells, recumbant bike and commerical grade treadmill which I may also be selling soon if I accept a teaching position for the Army back in the states.
Check out the classifieds here first. If you can't find it, pm me and I will forward what he sent me to you.
You realize that hormone replacement therapy is also over the counter here also?

I have some gym equipment in Udon. A private club or home gym really is the only option around here. There is no market for a real gym or trainers. The level of knowledge of a typically Thai makes the average 24 Hour Fatness soccer mom seem like a trainer of Olympic champions. You should see the looks I get doing

I have myhome gym set up in a shophouse. I do an hour plus cardio in the morning and then lift for a hour plus every evening. Lots of od looks from passers by when doing deadlifts, squats, hangs or anything with much weight on it. If you have any size, people will mention it to you and you will get looks. Not bad, just out of the ordinary.
I think a small serious gym that marketed to farang would have a chance.
I wonder what the difference is between the Lao mindset in Vientiane and the Thai mindset here. The Vientiane Gym is packed during peak times with serious lifters who are well trained by the owner. Gym behavior is excellent from the people there, weights stacked back, benches wiped off, very polite about working in. It is, since the closing of the Golden Gym in Pattaya, my favorite gym, anywhere. During grad school, I worked as the senior strength and conditioning coach of a DII University. I ran a tight ship but did not have the organization that the Vientaine Gym does.
Like ctm says, build your own.
I am going to take a teaching job for a while. My stuff will be for sale if you are looking.

The guys on my bodybuilding board say that Pan closed about a year ago and apparently relocated to another back street. I have not been able to find his new place. Next time I go down, I will just ask the motorcycle taxi guys at the Julie Complex if they know anything. We have only been to Pattaya twice in the past six months and then only for a day or two. Not enough time to do a full search.
I am selling all my gym equipment as I have just been hired for a position in Vientiane. PM me if you are interested, funmantoo. Only six months old, half price.

Muscle, Tonys Gym on Third Road and Soi Lenke in Pattaya has some serious equipment and is quite resonable too. I used to lift there daily before I moved to BKK.

Yes, I have also been to Tony's. It isn't the Universe...it is much better.
Notice how even the building the Universe was in is gone?

Baan Chiang Hotel has a very good fitness center. They have Cybex machines, Smich machine, and Cardio equipment. It is not for heavy lifters, but is good for about 95% of users. love, swami
