I'm like a lot of you chaps, left the UK a number of times to live in another place and never have any regrets. But I'll never cut ties with England.

I've got a feeling you're talking about leaving for good though.

Are you an aspiring rap singer now Khun Westerby?

I mean look at the title of this thread on the home page: Have you any regrets leaving your ho?

What the heck are you thinking?

Edit: Whoops, I was a little too eagre to condemn you to the gallows.

It is Bronco who is responsible for this rap song...nevertheless Khun Westerby, you should not have responded to a title of this nature. And, so it seems, nor should I. 55555

Regrets?
I have a few.
But then again, too few to mention. :-" :-({|=

That's Sinatra. Not rap.

OK Morti. This one's for you :D :

Back to topic.....nope, no regrets on leaving my home country. If I could find a health insurance company that will cover those over 60 I wouldn't even think about leaving here. Been thru the ropes with more than a few of them. I did it my way.

I left my 'home country' to live in 'foreign lands' in 1977, and have only lived in the US for a total of 4 years since then. Do I regret it? Not at all... except for that 4 year period.

None at all, but I'm from the UK, so that's understandable.

Agree Marmite.
The GBP shrinking to the Baht does not make it as cheap as it was to live in Udon but still better than the UK. I could list my dislikes of the UK,but that could leave you with the impression that anywhere would be better & that is certainly not true. However the high housing costs & high cost of eating out (coupled with often dreadful weather) means that I would have to endure a more "stay at home" attitude if I retired there.
I believe I can (& am) enjoying a better quality of life here than I could in the country of my birth.
I go back, to visit family & friends, about every 15 months &,of course, that is enjoyable but I do not feel that I am "home" again until I touch down in Udon...

I went home about 6.5 years ago and the first thing I wanted to do was get back on the first flight to Thailand. In my defence, I did fly into Birmingham. :D

I feel insulted, Marmite! I used to live there, and would certainly live there again, if i was to leave the deep south of England. It was also very central, so could get anywhere in UK in a day. London is what i hate - too big, too expensive.

I may use Birmingham as a base after i move to Udon, for my annual trip back to see the family, particularly if some move out of the South-east. Should be cheaper. And wish you could then fly direct to Thailand from there, have not seen a direct flight from there yet.

There are occasions when I do miss blighty however that is only when i want something that takes a few weeks to get.
Food availability is on the up, services are acceptable, no NHS to fght your way through, none of the political correctness one suffers in blighty,
Dealing with govt officals a tad better here than there, why would opne want to return only for funerals and weddings and then if you wanted to.

In short I do not miss the UK, or Germany or USA or Europe where I have lived in all those places all have faults but this country seems to meet my needs quite nicely thankyou.

For those Englishmen who feel that their country has changed too much, look at some of the facts, from population to beer consumption.

I'm one of the emigration statistics. I love my idea of England, but it doesn't exist any more. In Thailand I can cherish my dreams in comfort, and my visits to UK are not long enough to become disillusioned.
