Having to login several times a day.

PostAuthor: Bandung_Dero » May 1, 2009, 7:46 am

I have noticed over the last 10 days or so that even though I tick the “Keep me Logged In” box I keep getting logged out!

I had been ignoring it as I know Lee has been working on his package but anyone else getting the same problem?

Maybe you should check tools .options..privacy.Check the appropriate items ticked off.

Thanks, I use CCleaner on a daily basis and haven't changed any security settings for 18 months or so.

Edit. BTW I'm a member of many forums for any number of reasons and do not have this problem with any of them.

Don't worry Dero - you will have all your shiny new hardware in a few days, and after that, you will never have another problem :D

After using C cleaner you will always have to put your logon ID back into the system, it clears everything :D no big deal, just be happy BD :D

Last used Crap Cleaner Friday. Had to login twice yesterday and again first thing this morning. About to clean again.

Obviously you shut down FF before you clean and when you reinstall your memory on FF is still intact. When I use CC I just run it and when I come back on UM I have to Log in the one time and it runs fine after that. In the past I have had the problem of having to Log in every time, I have no Idea why, but after a couple of days it always sorted itself out...... curious :-"

Make sure you close all browsers completely before running CC. Also make sure you have selected 'delete cookies' for the relevant browsers.

Been running C Cleaner for years now and have a rough idea how to do it. I don't think clearing cookies effects automatic login as it's the web site server that remembers the IP address and acts accordingly.

I use at least 6 sites daily that operate the similar to UM, the only time I have to login on ThaiVisa is after they have completed a maintenance routine, say monthly. There are two, AVSIM and ORBX, that I haven't had to re login since joining them about a year ago.

Sorry, I was just offering some friendly advice, I had no idea you've been using CC for years. :(

Phpbb forum uses cookies not ip addresses for logging in. Cookies are used within phpBB for a number of things, the main one being the automatic login feature. When you click the ‘Log Me In Automatically’ box available on most forums, phpBB will set a cookie with your information in. Next time you visit the forums, you will be automatically logged in!

Additionally to what Lee wrote: your IP adress is not fixed but changes regularly. The server can not know that YOU are vsiting again.

OK! All I can say is it appears that different sites act in different ways. I have noted my IP address and see if it changes and would be interested to hear how Bob Helm kept on top of Mighty Chang if his address continually changed. The only time I know of was when he changed his ISP. BTW I've just had to login again for this session.

The internet (in general) only uses IP addresses to "recognise" users.
A forum needs to use "other methods" as well - otherwise anyone who signed on in an internet cafe would be completely stuffed!!!
As far as Udonmap is concerned even if I click the "check" box I have to sign on again if I 'clean' the internet either by using CC cleaner or by using the built in Fire Fox "cleaner". As I have saved ID & password this is not very onerous for me - I do not have "clear saved passwords" ticked.

As far as Chang is concerned - There are programs "out there" (nothing to do with the forum) that can tell you many, many things about a person on the internet - unless they are very, very security concious!!!!
Plus he just could not help himself from slipping back into his "Chang" persona within a couple of posts :D :D
