health insurance

PostAuthor: kevintheasianone » February 2, 2008, 10:09 am

I searched related topics but there was no good answer. Just curious if anyone had something to add. I am looking for health insurance and was wondering what companies would be good to look at.

I will likely be living in both Thailand and Laos, going back and forth between the two.

Thanks alot.

I've recently been through the minefield of trying to get health insurance.

Initially I went to AIA. Agreed an amount of cover, paid my money and waited for conformation of membership. 1 week later they told me they wanted another 20,000Baht to cover hyper-tension problems that i had already told them about. Had ECG and X-rays to dispel there concerns, but in the end they still wanted their 20K, so told them to shove it.

Went to another company, but turned out to have to many restrictions.

In the end went with BUPA. Trouble free joining.

Send me a pm if you want the agents cono.

I'm with these, cheaper than BUPA though cover I believe is slightly better. It's based on a similar concept.

Saw this one on ThaiVisa but don't know anyone yet who has the coverage:

Sounds good for the over-60s who can't get the BUPA or AIA.

How do health insurance companies deal with pre-existing diagnosed and controlled health problems like, as mentioned above, hypertension? I've been told by a doctor it wouldn't be worth me investing in an insurance policy as they would not cover me for my meds for this or indeed any problem I run into which is or could be related to hypertension, the list of these I may add is long....

I agree with you. In my case any heart problem is not covered, but at least I have peace of mind should I be involved in a serious RTA or contract a serious disease. It's up to the individual to weigh up the pros and cons as to whether its worthwhile.
