Agree 100% about your comment about some Anti Virus programs Morti. This is especially true of the ones that come your way via spam mail. Free to run, surprise, surprise they nearly always find "issues" which you then have to pay for a copy of the program to 'resolve'.
Threatfire certainly does not come into that category, it is a good product supplied by a reputable company & fixes issues as well as finding them. You can pay for it ($29.95) & it will then give you free telephone support, automatic updates(although you can get this on the free version if you opt into their "community") & the right to use in a commercial environment.
In addition I use AGV anti virus (again free) which will also detect some types of spyware but is really about virus protection.
