Pity for the lady. He got his trophy bride, but it seems she did not get the husband she expected. No wonder she went off looking for love. The lady was desperate for love, and it was not with him.

On the other hand, maybe he did make a real effort to know her and they are relatively fluent in both English and Thai.

His refusal to help the brother would not do much to improve her opinion of him. He would seem to be lacking in 'nam jai'.

If he did not have the financial means to look after her and her family in the first place, perhaps he should have taken the high road and called off the marriage.

I tend to agree with the columnist providing the advice. Life is never easy.

I thought the response by Bel Mooney was brilliant and right on the money!I feel very sorry for both the husband and the wife in this case.

There is nothing in this mans story to suggest that he was hustled or scammed!

There is much in his story to suggest that there was a complete nonunderstanding of each others cultures and basic motivations for wanting and having a relationship together.

I do have some reservations about her ''affair''whether understandable or not!And that should be his ''out'' legally and financially if he chooses.

He must assume reponsibility for his mistakes, but he does not have to assume reponsibility for her ''violation'' of their relationship!

All WBU jokes aside, I agree, Stan.

Seems like there was a lack of communication from the start; but I agree that it shouldn't have given her license to stray.

I also agree with Stan...i read it twice and from what i read i can't see he has been scammed, unless he has'nt given the full story, he might treat her like sh*t and she could be very very lonely who knows,Spending longer periods in Thailand if possible so she can be near her family if possible, would be of help.

They want a man's money and, quite often, a British passport. Why can't these poor fools realise that?

I believe this is quite common. Many elderly gentlemen come to Thailand for prostitutes. Ultimately they end up with a man-eater that takes all their money and leaves them with a broken heart. I suggest they not get married, get a retirement visa, buy property in their own name, and if they do actually fall in love and find "the one" then wait a couple years and take her to see your country and decide on marriage that way.

I knew my foreign bride for 5 years before I met her in person and got married. We've had no problems and her desperately poor family has never asked for money and actually offered us money to help get started. They even lent us their motorbike so I could get to work and paid for our wedding, etc. I suppose poor is a relative term in Asia but I see so many 60+ year old men with 20 year old wives, they go buy property in the girl's name, and then they get dumped and have no recourse.

I suggest if you're looking for love, find someone in your age range

- Js, Bangkok, Thailand

The guy who married a Thai woman is an embarrassment to all men. It's quite obvious that he's being used, and he should tell this woman to get lost. He must be stupid to waste all his money. I can assure you that in the eyes of his Thai wife the marriage is meaningless.

I didn't see the commentors as very knowledgable or relevant!Even the guy that ''knew'' his ''foreign bride''doesn't show any knowledge of Thailand!

For future reference anybody finds their url is larger than most go to http://tinyurl.com/and type in a long url it will shorten it for you so the page is not in widescreen. Though some on here have other cool ways to shorten also... 8)

The nanaplaza.com website is still there, but the operators saw that with a name like that, they were going to be out of business soon, and besides, it was difficult to attract advertisers. They have moved the users to thai360.com and have adopted a more conservative format. The old nanaplaza.com site is dormant and only catches web traffic for the new site and the advertising revenue is barely enough to pay the cost of keeping the site up (according to the operators).

Its still a pretty good place to ask question about Bangkok. Much as udonmap.com is a pretty good place to find info about Udon.

Blimey, nanaplaza.com, now there's a blast from the past, I used to be part of their London contingent along with a few others we had regular meets to discuss los over a few cold beers.

Never been quite the same since the change to thai360 imho, but at least ol' Fiery Jack is still alive and well and as large as life....

Suprised to hear that, I thought Khun Sanook was a shrewd operator, I'm sure he was making good money out of it a while back.

Not changed much, here's the start of a blog on the website LOL!!

"Meg had breasts like water balloons only half filled with water but when she danced nobody seemed to care. Once she'd eased off her industrial strength bikini top she rarely let them hang pendulously. Rather she flung herself "........... :D

I'm a thai woman who's married to a white guy. I love my husband and never care for citizenship neither for his money. I really dislike when people stereotype that all Thai women marry white guys just for money which us not true. People are good and bad everywhere. You just have to be cautious and after all you should take responsibility for your o own decision and action, not just blame other people.
