Holiday destinations?

PostAuthor: RALPHCUSENS » June 18, 2008, 9:59 am

Hi,

I'm trying to decide where to go for a family holiday(Thailand) in October, any suggestions where would be suitable for me, the better half and the 12 year old daughter.

Would like a bit of night life as well, but not Pattaya style!

A few years ago I would have said Koh Samui. Sadly it is expensive & over commercialised now. I have never been to Chang but have heard nothing but good reports. Sounds like a good suggestion to me... :D :D

Koh Chang is a lovely island with good beaches and scenery.....maybe getting a bit overdeveloped in some places now.
Whitesands has a nice beach with quite good nightlife.Klong Prau has a gorgeous beach but a bit quiet at night.
Check the weather forecast for October,though.....you wont want two weeks of rain :(

An alternative,on the mainland,is Hua Hin.Plenty of nightlife but certainly not Pattaya style.Four miles of beach,as well, where you can go horseriding which might interest a 12 year old girl.

Stan & Bob, I went to Koh Chang in April, yes it was scenic, with good beaches, but her indoors, wants somewhere new!

Zindane, Hua Hin, is one place, that we have on the shortlist,

I'm one of the strange people, that has to have his daily intake of Farang food, as I only eat a limited amount of Thai food, is there a selection of western eating houses in Hua Hin?

Yeh, OK, we were thinking of Nong Khai, however, with all this publicity about the place, we thought that there would be TOO MANY farangs the so we thought we would give it a miss.

Its our intention to take the car anyway, so Hua Hin appears a distinct possibility.

Cheers,

Ralph

Understood Stan, well, I'm easily pleased, I would be be happy with beach or countryside, but the wife and daughter would prefer the beach.

Therefore somewhere with a decent beach, and if possible, where we can visit places of interest within reasonable driving distances, as I don't want to be driving all day.

Ralph,
Try this website www.huahinafterdark.com
Tells you most of what you need to know about Hua-Hin.....accomodation,restaurants,things to do etc.

Theres shedloads of farang eating places there. The beach is a bit rocky near the pier (Hua-Hin end) but if you head away from there towards this huge buddah in the rocks at the far end (Khao Takiab ??) its a lot better.....beach is about 4 miles in distance.
Also, about 25 minutes away,is the quieter beach resort of Cha-am and between there and Hua-Hin is the Dusit Resort Polo & Country Club.....ideal for a genteel Portsmouth fan like yourself ! 8)
