Any sting can become infected quite easily. It is not uncommon for a person who has been stung on the under side of their arm to end up with cellulitis.
Here in Thailand there are many varieties of the wasp family - some more dramatic than others.
The main thing is to keep it clean and get some "drawing cream" to put on it. A drawing cream will draw out the infection and the residual poison, and well as act as an antibiotic.
If you have abnormal swelling from this particular bite as opposed to a similar bite in the past, it could be that you have an intolerance to that particular type of venom. Nothing much to worry about unless the healing process takes more than 3 or 4 days.
If it becomes an open wound, the stinger may still be inside the skin. If in doubt, go to a clinic and have it looked at.
