recently in udon area (wung tong) got stung by a hornet about 1 inch long red back took ages to heal ,any info about them

Hornet stings are more toxic than bee stings, and can take longer to heal than wasps because of the toxic venom.

In my garden have two types. The sort that makes a mud nest on the wall or under chairs, and the larger ones that make a nest by joining leaves together in the trees. The latter have been known to chase me round the garden like a demented banshee. Both sting , very jip, but no adverse reaction other than itch like hell for a couple of days.Rub some tiger balm on, it soon stops.

Any sting can become infected quite easily. It is not uncommon for a person who has been stung on the under side of their arm to end up with cellulitis.

Here in Thailand there are many varieties of the wasp family - some more dramatic than others.

The main thing is to keep it clean and get some "drawing cream" to put on it. A drawing cream will draw out the infection and the residual poison, and well as act as an antibiotic.

If you have abnormal swelling from this particular bite as opposed to a similar bite in the past, it could be that you have an intolerance to that particular type of venom. Nothing much to worry about unless the healing process takes more than 3 or 4 days.

If it becomes an open wound, the stinger may still be inside the skin. If in doubt, go to a clinic and have it looked at.

U need to also be careful for tetanus , and if the wound becomes weeping or not healing, then u need to jump on it quick. Experience in Australia is now identifying nasty tisssue necrosis in bites and stings that are not agressively treated for the wound infections that are associated. Similar ulcerations to diabetics and need to be treated with hyperbaric medicine ( Pattaya , Phuket )

Steroid creams will assit if u have a good Doctor that understands this.
