Hospitals accepting TRICARE in Thailand

PostAuthor: FrazeeDK » March 2, 2009, 5:12 pm

From the latest JUSMAG Retiree Advisory newsletter:

THAI HOSPITALS WITH PARTIAL PAYMENT ARRANGEMENT: TRICARE entitled military retirees and their family members or survivors as an inpatient [admitted over night] normally pay the bill and then use the DD FORM 2642 to claim their cost share. There are hospitals in Thailand that will assist and inpatient to arrange for a partial payment, a minimum of 25% for covered services, and then the hospital presents its claim to theTRICARE processor Wisconsin Physicians Service. This arrangement requires that the inpatient coordinate FIRST with JUSMAGTHAI’S TRICARE Office. Without the TRICARE Office’s assurance of an inpatient’s current TRICARE eligibility, hospitals in Thailand will not provide this arrangement.
Unfortunately a military retiree with both a DOD I.D. card [DD-2] and a Medicare card that indicated his current eligibility, was NOT currently eligible. By failing to pay a debt to a State, he committed a federal crime by departing the State to come to Thailand. The State reported his crime to the SSA. The SSA suspended his annuity and Part B premium payments, then informed DEERS. The WPS always requests from DEERS the claiment’s TRICARE current eligibility before claims are paid. As a inpatient he arranged with a hospital for a partial payment and then left town. The hospital’s claim was not paid. Thai hospitals now wait to hear from the TRICARE Office that it has received from DEERS a report of current TRICARE eligibility.
The hospitals are:
BANGKOK: BANGKOK, GENERAL, BANGKOK NURSING HOME, BUMRUNGRAD, PRARAM 9, SAMITIVEJ, & THE HEART BY SIRIRAJ.
CHIANG MAI: CHIANGMAI RAM 1 & MCCORMICK
PHUKET: BANGKOK PHUKET

Also to add this. For US military retirees, go to AEK International department (1st flr near front entrance) advise them that your health plan is provided by TRICARE and ask to be registered in the hospital's system. Upon completing a short form they will enter your data in the system and issue you a card with your name, ID number and bar code. In the event of an accident or emergency this card will identify you as having TRICARE and they will contact TRICARE directly for pre-authorization for whatever medical procedure is required.

Here's a link for the RAO's news letter. It's posted on the Pattaya VFW's website.

The following is from the TRICARE retiree dental site. There are dentists listed in Thailand for the Enhanced overseas TDRP, but they are all in Bangkok

Enhanced TRDP or the Enhanced-Overseas TRDP. The service area for enrollees in the Enhanced TRDP includes the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Canada. When traveling outside this service area, enrollees in the Enhanced TRDP are eligible for emergency dental services only; however, dependents of Enhanced TRDP enrollees who are full-time students studying overseas are eligible for the full scope of services, with verification of their overseas student status.

Coverage under the Enhanced-Overseas TRDP, which matches the scope of coverage described in the chart below, is available to enrollees who reside outside the Enhanced TRDP service area noted above. Upon their enrollment in the Enhanced-Overseas Program, enrollees receive a supplemental guide with details on the provisions that apply specifically to their overseas coverage.

Thanks for refreshing my memory Stantheman. I remember now checking out that site and looking up the premium for this region. For a family of 3 or more the monthly premium is $118.30 (4149bt). I'd rather pay out of pocket at my expense.
