How much has changed !?

PostAuthor: corvin1984 » April 4, 2009, 3:55 am

Its been a good few years (2007) since I was lucky enough to be over in Udon, I was wondering how much has changed with the local nightlife scene. I've had a scan over the forum and it reads like much has changed over there. No more Mambo ? farang alley destroyed ?

All seems a bit drastic to me. I plan to arrive on sunday for a good few weeks maybe months. Would be good to get some feedback as to where is decent to spend some of my time and money.

Cheers,

Brett.

Yes, Mambo's has closed & Farang Alley is a car park...
In the case of the latter (in my opinion) it has now split into two. The more "in your face" bars have moved to Day & Night complex, the more "Laid back" ones have moved to Nutty Park. That is a huge generalisation I know, but basically true. There are also plenty of new bars scattered about in between the two.
You will certainly not feel that you have less choice now than the last time you came to Udon - rather the opposite. :D Your biggest issue might be to find a bar that actually has any customers other than you!!! :D
As for where to spend you money, certainly your choice & I guess it will probably change day to day depending on what you feel like - but more choice than your last visit fro certain.

Agree with Bobs comments on the 2 options to sit and have your beer or refreshments etc, Simple and easy way to describe it.

Mambo closed, as other options opened.

The number 1 Thai Pub in Udon is now UPOP, in the Udon Hotel, Aungsa ?? sic over the road kicks off at 0200 , check bin @ 0330.

Climax in the old Hi Tech still popular, closes 0230, then onto Aungsa :drunk: :drunk:

Mouzzy D2, opposite UD Pub is popular and UD Pub is reggae based.

Welcome to the Forum Corvin. If you last visited in 2007, that's not too many years ago!! ;)

Yellow Bird behind the Charoen Hotel is still there, and has live music every night. ;)

cheers for the response guys, just sat in schipol now starting my thai tour in the same fashion i finished the last.

good to hear the good old yellow bird is still knocking about, same for the hi-tech complex.

the newer bars are more of a mystery for me though, how do i get there and what sort of crowd can i expect ?

Hi Corvin,

There are no crowds in any bars at the moment, maybe half a dozen punters if you're lucky.
Perhaps the lack of customers and mongers is due to the tanking of the British pound.

There is more more life in a Eastbourne Retirement home.
You're better off going to the Thai places.
