Thai Buddhists don't want to be saved, they want to earn enough merit in this life to be re-born into a happier existence in the next life.
How much doe that merit cost because I don't see many altruistic actions by Thais!Of course I am ''concluding'' that most Thais are Thai Buddhist!

This thread may be longer then the baht thread but I hope not:

Red shirts to use newtactics including possible armed attacks : Jakrapob
By The Nation

Runaway red shirted leader Jakrapob Penkair promised that the "red-shirt" protest movement in Thailand would continue a clandestine campaign against the Abhisit government.
One of the most outspoken red shirted leader, Jakrapob managed to escape overseas after the army broke up the mass protests in Bangkok a week ago.

Speaking to the BBC from in hiding, he said the movement would use different tactics to confront the government, including possible armed attacks.

"I believe the room for unarmed and non-violent means to resolve Thailand's problem is getting smaller every day," he told BBC.

The sudden end of the red-shirt protests last week has left the movement in disarray.

Five of the organisers have been arrested and are being held under the emergency decree, which is still in effect.

Speaking by phone from an undisclosed location, he told the BBC that the struggle to bring down the current government would continue, but that they would no longer rely on conventional forms of protest.

"The state of emergency is a big help. It puts people underground. I believe the room for unarmed and non-violent means to resolve Thailand's problem is getting smaller every day," he said.

Messrs Thaksin and Jakropob are both playing high stakes games now, with the former calling for revolution, and the latter, apparently, for armed responses.

Welllthye had their Parliment meeting and all they really did was contiunue around the circle. If they continue this way I really see little hope and it appears that they are. Not looking for answers only ways to blame.

I do not think we will ever see the PAD leadership and their yellow-shirted followers ever apologise for anything.

It is like the old British Foreign Office dictum - 'Never apologise, never explain'.

Khun BKKSTAN, the best way for a Thai Buddhist male to earn merit is to become a monk. For a Thai Buddhist female the best way to earn merit is to give food to the monks in the early morning and to go and make merit (tam bun) at the wat.

There are lots of charity organisations in Thailand some of which make seem familiar to us like the Lion's Club, the Rotary Club and so on. There is an Optomists Club in Udon.

Usually, the biggest donors to charities are Chinese Buddhists (Mahayana School as opposed to Thai Theravadists) wherein money donations are an good way to enter the Western Paradise/Pure Land after death

Remember Foreign Minister Kasit was the yellow shirt out at the PAD induced shut-down of the airports revelling in the excitement and telling the world about all of the fun he had.

In other words, he might not be the most unbiased source to provide a balanced view about Thaksin and friends.

However, I get your point, or the point made in the article, about the threat made by Jakropob.

Git, you are becoming quite the political observer. The role suits you. 55555
