Hydrochloric Acid

PostAuthor: rickfarang » April 6, 2009, 2:01 pm

I have been looking, without success, for some Hydrochloric Acid HCl), also called Muriatic Acid. This is commonly used to lower the PH in swimming pools and ponds and to clean concrete and bricks. I want some to use in my hobby.

The swimming pool office in Home Pro offered a dry powder which seems to make more than just HCl when mixed with water. At at 800 baht for the smallest container, I am not tempted to experiment with it.

So my question is: Where can I buy some hydrochloric acid in Udon?

Thank you in advance for any solutions or insights.

Rick . In Home Pro I bought a liquid in cans for cleaning the black off my walls before repainting. I think it was hydro acid but haven't the old can to check for you. It was brushed on , then hosed off.It could be what your looking for.Its in the paint section.

Rick, some of the toilet cleaners, available from the supermarkets, and I would think Seven Eleven, do contain some Hydrochloric Acid. They are usually in dark blue or purple plastic bottles.

Upon checking the Duck one, which we have, it contains 15% HCl. I don't know if that would be enough for your purposes.

Rick,,, another option might be the drug store. In a lot of countries, the local chemist or apothecary have pure chemicals or compounds,,,,just a thought,, LL

Good luck in your search, as long as a bath and noisy neighbours aren't involved!

That's the stuff inside car batteries (well, it's diluted slightly with water) you possibly could
use like a turkey-baster and draw out a little to use in your hobby then replace with distilled
water. Who would know? Yep, that's what I'd do and probably lucky for you you're not me.

Actually that's sulphuric acid in the lead-acid car batteries? Oh what the heck it will all
eat stuff so be careful with it. I apologize, my knowledge base of acids & poisons is limited.

Do a Google search for Hydrochloric Acid (pages from Thailand). The results are not in Udon but I'm sure one of the contacts could deliver or advise you where to buy it from locally.

Thank you all. I am now the proud owner of 1 1/2 gallons of hydrochloric acid. Tool Pro had some half-full containers for 300 baht each. Which is fine with me because if they only had full containers, I wouldn't have been able to life it out of the car.

Thank you also for the warning, 747man. I will remember to wear safety goggles and plastic gloves while handling and mixing it.

Rick,

Don't know the strength of this acid, but when/if you are diluting it ALWAYS add the acid to the water and not the other way round.
