Ice Hockey

have grandkids we like to see and some of my hobbies that I truely enjoyed, I was not able to do in Thailand

when people ask me about retirement in thailand, that is one thing i try to point out. what do you do now, and you won't be able to do here. obviously family is the biggest, and simple joy of a hobby.

with no ice hockey here, my brother really wouldn't enjoy it here. watching, coaching, playing, and no Flyers. his kawi 1100 wouldn't be a practical expense and would mean a fatal accident, the reason i don't buy a real scooter.

for dysfunctional loner like myself, it was too easy a decision, and simply, Gem and Ree keep me here, no other reason. or i'd be hopping around and seeing other options, still like mexico/caribbean idea, damn hurricanes. everyday living, a bit cheaper here, but the rest is overpriced and poor value. it's the big ticket bills that i don't have from a metro area in northeast that make a difference, but if back in the states, i also wouldn't have those either, as not where i would live again.

good luck to all in all your decisions. 8)

........not till they make the Stanley Cup playoffs................... :D :D :D

with no ice hockey here

Actually, they do have a league in Bangkok and the newspapers report the scores. One of the teams is named the Flyers. However, it may all be an illusion and there are no games, there is no league and there are no teams.

Where would they play for instance?

Anyway, check the Bangkok Post every now and again in the sports section for ice hockey news.

The Thai national hockey team got manhandled by Khakistan or Belarus by some outrageous score that is the largest ever loss in international hockey.

LA here you go and the Flyers are indeed in the Thai ice-hockey league.

I still think they are making this up as filler and there is no real league. Note they did not indicate where these games were played and I doubt the Chao Phraya froze over. 55555

Flyers hammer Slammers as Warriors pummel Blades
Published: 22/01/2009 at 12:00 AM
Newspaper section: SportsSAMRONG : The D'Pelican Inn Flyers hammered the Penalty Spot Slammers 7-4 Sunday in deVere & Partners Thai-World Hockey League action as the battle for play-off positions intensified.

The Wall St. on 33 Warriors were dominant in a 6-1 victory over the BNH Hospital Blades, moving into sole possession of first place with just four games remaining in the regular season.

Dan Oracheski was the offensive star for the Flyers with a hat-trick. He corralled a loose puck in the slot and snapped a shot top shelf for his nicest goal of the night. Blue-liner Struan Robertson utilized his big point blast and scored a pair, and Bruce Hodges chipped one home and added two assists.

The Slammers got goals from English grinder Adrian Pring who bounced back quickly from a big hit and fired a one-timer in on the ensuing power-play. Winger Jason Tuckett's hot-hand continued as he ripped a hard wrist shot that found the back of the net.

Goalie Lance Parker was solid between the pipes making several acrobatic saves. The third-place Flyers improved to 6-5-0, while the Slammers' record dropped to 2-9-0.

The Warriors were unstoppable in the late game led offensively by captain Joe Doan, Scott Whitcomb, David Blomqvist and Joe Lamantia, who also notched three goals. Lamantia spun around in the high slot and unleashed a blast that nearly took the netminder's catching glove off before going in.

Massive Swedish rearguard Per-erik Eriksson was a force to be reckoned with in his own end and added four assists in the other.

Thai defenceman Anun Kulligan netted the Blades only goal, rushing the puck with his devastating speed and stepping into a slapshot that bulged the twine. The Warriors improved to 7-3-1 while the Blades fell into second place at 6-4-1.

I loved living in London, at the expense of the Canadian tax-payer, and would not mind spending my last years there. England would be my second choice to Thailand...no...wait a minute...Laos might come second making England the bronze medal winner, and if Burma ever gets straightened out, England will be out of the medal count, but it is still a nice place to live. Canada, of course, is out of the picture. The temperature with the wind chill today is -35 celsius. Enough said.

When I last checked (about 5 or 6 years ago) there were about 4 or 5 teams in the Thai Hockey League, and they played on the 8th floor at World Trade Centre. I went up there one night, just on the offchance, and spoke with a couple of the guys. Eventually managed to get 2 gameworn Bangkok Flying Farang Hockey shirts back to the UK, where they were proudly worn at many British rinks and also all over Europe.

The Thai National Team was at the time playing in World Champ Pool "D" alongside Turkey and Australia if memory serves correctly.
