Immigration Bureau - unhelpful signs

PostAuthor: lee » July 7, 2008, 2:12 pm

I'm quite surprised by the lack of English written signs at the Nong Khai Immigration Office. Visa stats and figures are written out in Thai and most information notices are in Thai. Since all visa applicants are of course foreign nationality wouldn't it be more logical to provide the information in English.

This is one form that stood out to me. The immigration is pointing out that they improving and revising services to provide travelers with better service and to protect national security. But the improvements are written in Thai. :? :? :?

The Question is ....

would they be receptive to a nice letter etc outlining Lee's concern.

Or will Lee work from Lao ??

I don't think they are receptive to any criticism whatsoever! Why would they be?It is not Thai culture and who are we to tell them how to do things! They might just respond that if you are going to live here, you should be able to speak and read the language!

It is a Western assumption to begin with if we think the sign is there to benefit falangs! That would only come from a service oriented culture!Thailand is a self serving culture!

It was more an observation than concern. I just seems pointless to me to mention improvments etc. in English and then give reference to them in Thai. :(
