Important telephone numbers - Udon Thani & Thailand

PostAuthor: Paul » August 16, 2008, 8:56 am

Back in our home countries we all knew the telephone number of the emergency services (Police/fire/ambulance)

In Udon (or anywhere else in Thailand) would you know who to call if you arrived at a road accident, your house was on fire, or you had just had your motorbike/car stolen ?

(And assuming there were no locals around)

I wouldn't !

Very interesting point Paul!!I don't,so I ask myself Why?

I guess it is because I assume that if something happens to my family or friends,I would act faster and more interested than Thais!

But if I was injured, who would be the emergency responder?

So I think it might be prudent to know!

Thanks!

I would only call the police,if I was under attack or sure of an impending attack! Then I would be afraid I was calling reinforcements versus help in some areas and situatopns.not necessaryily in NK or Udon though!

1669 will get a Ambulance and Roadside Emergency services.
1193 will get the Hwy Police.
You will see the signs for these numbers posted every few kms.
Not sure of the Tourist Police number

Good question. I had always assumed that the Tourist police would be best since they (the one officer I met) would have good English language skills, and could then contact the appropriate agency. Is this a safe assumption?

Given that the average response time for an ambulance in the UK was over 20 mins (before I left several years ago), I don't think calling the TP first, waiting for them to turn up and then call you an ambulance is a good idea. You would probably have died several times over before the acutely aware Thai drivers had finally moved over and allowed the Ambulance through.

I think the 'rescue workers' would be first on the scene don't they monitor the radio waves...?

Maybe a dumb question. I'm assuming "roadside Emergency Services" is who you would call for a tow-truck or other assistance with a disabled car. Right?

Good point westerby. I don't think all the emergency numbers are anywhere "handy" on the front page. Maybe if we can get them all together (with a little help & assistance :D ) we can persuade Lee to do that...

Good idea.

They are on the map and magazine but not on the website yet. I will sort something out for the front page later.
