Internet Banking in Thailand

PostAuthor: gulfman » May 13, 2009, 4:11 am

For the last eight years I have had an account with Bangkok Bank in Udon, but because I do not have the 'permanent' (one year) residence they will not give me internet access.

Does anyone who is not a permanent resident have Internet Access facilities with another bank?

I've had Internet Banking with Kasikornbank since the English version was introduced in 2002 or there abouts. I signed on at the Din Daeng branch in BKK where I had my account for some time without anything other than positive ID. The manager knew me anyway. No problem when I transferred the account to Udon in 2005.

Some banks may require a non immigrant visa but never heard of any requiring "Permanent Residency"

I originally signed up with Kasikorn Bank on a tourist visa in 2007 and I had Internet access straight away.

I've been with the Bangkok Bank for 14 years, when we moved up here some years back I was told to qualify for internet banking I would need to have a work permit no mention of a residency, but that was some years back.
Interesting the Kasikorn bank gives immediate internet banking, can anyone with an account with them tell me if they charge 150 bht to withdraw cash using a foreign VISA card, Bangkok bank have recently started this practice, I may just jump the Bangkok bank ship and open an account with Kasikorn.

Last time at Kbank ATM I wasn't charged the 150bt fee. Updates on ATM's fees were being posted here, but have seen any recent updates lately.

From other threads it seems that Kbank is very user friendly, may have to think about ditching BKK bank & SCB as well.

Again, I have internet banking with Kasikorn.

Kasikorn have always seemed the most accommodating bank for foreigners and I have always had good service from them.

Some pretty 'broad' statements there Marmite, "the most accommodating bank" and "always had good service". I suppose I could say the same for Bangkok Bank but, I won't. I asked for and was granted internet access via my BKK Bank account just over a year ago and it seems to work just fine. (Having said that, they were off-line last week for an update, but no problems) I have two accounts with them, one joint with the T/W and one personal, they both appear when I insert my log-in data. I am NOT a permanent resident, but am on a non-immigrant visa (retirement). I presented my Yellow Book when applying and this may have made a difference?? I also have direct deposit with them which may have made them more amenable.

I have had this conversation numerous times over the years I have lived here and whilst some are happy with SCB, Bangkok Bank or whoever, Kasikorn are mentioned in a positive light much more than any other bank.

I have opened 2 accounts with them with just my passport. The last time I went in there, they apologised to me for having to charge me to cash a cheque. The only 'negative' experience with them in 7 years was being refused a credit card.

Oh, and look up the word 'seemed' which is implying that this is my perception of how things are.

I switched from BKK to Kasi last year, walk in tourist visa internet banking on the spot and now doing all my banking from HK.

Free transfers to same bank .. so got my bill payers to switch to Kasi as well.

Dirt cheap even interbank

Every thing is instant on line and beneficiary get sms moment I hit return button

Tf in HK $ and draw Bht on ATM no fees

Thanks to everyone for all your help, it would seem that Kasikorn is the way to go if I want to operate a Thai bank account by internet.
