Is this a new trend among Thai women?

PostAuthor: Tilokarat » January 11, 2009, 2:04 am

An interesting conversation ensued in a thread in another forum the other day between two Thai females.

They noted that it is becoming trendy among Thai women to have younger boyfriends/or husbands. Their exchange was quite enlightening and entertaining. It is quite possible that this 'trend' is confined to Bangkok for the present, but it will move to the smaller centres in time.

In most cases, this means the women is going out with a guy (Thai or farang) that is just a few years younger than her, but it can include a relationship in which the man is 10-20 years younger than her.

In any case, they bantered about like this: 'chai phuying thai chop kin dek' (Oh yeah, thai women love to go out with (eat) younger men (children).

The response was, 'kin dek sukka pahp dee tae mai im tongg tong kin boi boi' (going out with younger men is good for your health, but it won't make you full...you have to eat it often).

I asked my very good friend in Udonthani about this, and she did not have a clue what I was talking about at first. It might be noted, however, that her ex-husband was three years younger than her.

Once she grasped the meaning of the above, she thought this was fair. She pointed out that many older farang men can be seen with young Thai females so it is only right that older Thai women can have toy boys and relationships with younger guys. This is true.

No, I do not think so.

These are upwardly mobile middle-class Thai gals with lots of time on their hands. These women have few worries, and want to enjoy life and have fun.

What was that line by Mae West, 'If you've got nothing to do and lot's of time to do it in, come up and see me some time'. That line might not be too far off in defining the 'new' Bangkok girl.

Maybe they are expressing their frustration with the majority of Thai age compatible males being spoiled ,undeserving of their relatioship power positions and generally unappreciative of a strong self sufficient independent woman!

They are feeling their lack of economic insecurity and showing it by enjoying the youthful physicalness of their opposite sex!

Or possibly ,they now have time to play mommie ,with men that want or are used to being spoiled!

Can't imagine these self sufficient upwardly mobile Thai women being interested in falangs unless they want ''cuter'' babies

BKKSTAN the way it was explained on the forum was that they had picked up on this type of relationship from the United States with Demi Moore, perhaps Madonna in the United Kingdom and so on, and some Thai girls had decided to try it.

This seems to be a fad along the lines of getting a tattoo, a nose ring and so on.

One of the arguments used is that if older farangs and Thai men can have their trophy wives and young mistresses, why can't Thai women get a toy boy.

I always thought a toy boy was a gay boy which does not provide any sexual enjoyment for the female gender but I am not up with the new lingo that go on in to day world now if the gals want a young stud by all means get one as long as your a free women and willing to pick up the check bin

As far as the posters in the site this discussion originated are aware, the 'trend' is mostly confined to Bangkok and to ladies who are in tune with all things Hollywood, and think that they would like to follow Madonna and Demi Moore and have a younger male as a companion.

I think the idea is that the man still looks after the woman; however, the age of the male is younger than that of the female. In other words, the girls are looking for younger boy friends thus the phrase 'kin dek' = eat child, or eat (consume) a young boy.

IMO,It is all about a ''sense of control''in their lives. Those that can afford to experiment do and some of the others copy the behavior to act out thier fantasy of being more Hi-So than they are in reality!

All Thai Woman I have spoken to agree that young men are good for only one thing, and that can be over in mere seconds ! They all agree that older men are more secure both mentally and financially and this is what they are looking for in the long term. I cant see some young Thai Stud taking a Woman old enough to be his Mother to Dinner or Dancing and then footing the Bill !!

that would be the point, she foots the bill...............................i hope so, i got some 80 year old babe eyeing me up every morning while sipping coffee. :yikes:

hmm, we a bit sarcastic about the reverse of ourselves. so i guess some/many of our lasses hear it from the locals all the time. sure they get the thumbs up, well done, good for you, and the thumbs down, why you do, thai man your age not good enough.

but with all things, economics, beauty, haves and have nots, supply and demand, free enterprise, and of course, love and sex rules. just not sure what order they come in now of days. that order seems to change back and forth as we change back and forth.

still hopeless romantic, but glance in the mirror every once in a while and see some damn egotistical, self center, chauvinistic, me me me, my way or.................stop, plug me back into the matrix :frying pan: :frying pan: :frying pan: :frying pan: :frying pan: :frying pan:

BKKSTAN and Aardvark you both make valid points, which is why the women talk about it as a fad.

Your points are underlined by the expression they use too: ''kin dek sukka pahp dee tae mai im tongg tong kin boi boi' (going out with younger men [literally, eating children] is good for your health, but it won't make you full...you have to eat it often).

Furthermore, LA, the last time the Cardinals made the playoffs was for the championship, and the good old Chicago Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

It is sad to say that my beloved Chicago Cardinals (Ollie Matson, Night Train Lane, Pat Summerall, Mel Hammack, Joe Childress, Johnny Olzewski [sp], John-David Crow et al) are no more after their ill-fated moves to St. Louis and Arizona. However, I expect them to whip the Eagles and then defeat someone from that other league.

Yes, it is true that I am hallucinating, but it would be nice to see the Cardinals win for once in this lifetime !

i know the feeling, Eagles, that's one foreplay team. though looking at things, they seem fairly even in the season, usually beating less that 500 % teams, and both winning some tough teams, sometimes struggling with both, tho philly has a bit of momentum going in, some consistent wins, end of season. think it will come down to mistakes, who ever doesn't make them.

AFC seems a little weak, NFC has a good chance to win super bowl. hope it's the steelers, philly got spanked by baltimore. kind of hope it's thanksgiving all over again, but good luck to your Cardinals, which ever has a good chance of winning the big one. :D
