These are plain clothes police from the regular force. The guys who sign our book are from the volenteer police out to get a bit of pocket money. They drive the same sort of red pickup, a bit hard to sort the wheet from the chaff.

Some time ago, while I was in Europe, my wife also got visit from "so called police in plain clothes".
My wife talked with them outside the gate.
To make a long story short: after some talking, my wife got suspicious.
She asked the policemen (1 in the car and one outside) for an ID. He showed an old ID from the police in Buriram.
My wife told him to wait outside and said that she was going to call the local office to check his name and ID.
When she went back in the house the "so called police" took of with burning rubber!!!!!!!!!

So I don't trust police in plain clothes. Even when they show an ID, it means nothing. Thailand is full of fake ID's like all over the world.
We only talk to proper immigration police with proper uniform and ID.
Or we talk with the local policemen that we very well know.
I only would like to say to the people of the forum:
be aware of crooks, use your common sense and check twice before you let people in your house!!!!!

That's interesting as my guys that sign the book are regular cops who come on their motorcycles or in a red mitsubishi truck and are friends of the wife.

As for the fake cops we had some visit last week, but as the wife nows all the local guys she told them to take a running jump.

Found out my family had a visit from the local coppers checking up on the farang, was not important enough for them to even tell me and only after reading these posts did I ask and was told they were checking all the farangs in our village Tub Kung for proper visa documents. I also am here only on a tourist visa so they wanted to know when I came and when I am leaving. When I do leave I suspect they will get another visit from them to see if I have really left.
It seems they know when you are around and like to pick a time when you are not home to pay a visit so they can ask their questions to your family and neighbors.
Part of the visa shakeup I guess

I wish them luck with that one :!: If I'm not here the place is empty and my neighbors, well they would say he has been here for years

I do find it strange that no one has seen these mysterious people. How in gods name do they know you are not home. Guess we best start checking behind the bushes :!:

Sounds to me like a year ago, when some women stopped-by and asked the wife a lot of questions, she came to me with some form in thai, I told her to tell the women to bring something in english. (long story)
anyways to get to the point she never came back. Later my wife started to think it also strange, after she talked to the neighbors.

There's the difference. The guys who visited me Tuesday were driving one of their new red Mitsu's. The guys that do the property inspection drive last centuries model.
