Its surprising how nice those"stupid folks" can be when they realise your not such a bad guy after all  Your way may avoid the issue but it will surely lead to the total isolation of the farang community. Is that what we want? :?:

It maybe adds a bit of perspective to, for example, the Asian community in the UK. I have some friends in that area, and yes, that is exactly what they do when they get the "Paki" comments or whatever. This attitude seems far far worse in other parts of the world to me, another example being Turks in Germany.

Your latter point really endorses mine about total isolation. I haven't been back for many years but last time I was I saw in the Bradford area, not far from you I think? The result of , turning the other cheek. Entire streets even estates full of Asian people isolated from the general community around them. Their own supermarkets, cinemas, even schools.
The successful ones have been those that made the effort to be accepted, realising the dickheads that were making a song and dance were not representative of the rest of the community. We had our own example of this on our own doorstep in Northern Ireland.

I want to resay my intent. Think I goofed up when I said stupid folks. I meant ignorant. Stupid means you can't learn and ignorant means you can learn.

There is an old saying and I feel like a lot of countries need to learn this including mine, You can throw hand gernades all day and at the end of the day both the throwee and the thrower will still dislike each other. You sit down and help each other learn for one day tomorrow both will return for more.

Education is the key.

Why did they kill all the educated folks in Cambodia. Easier to lead. Why is the communist in China falling. the folks learned there is more than the farm and state. In most all the countries in the world were there is war and famine, the education level is so low or non existant Only the leaders want their children educated so they can lead the masses of uneducated.

Now back to my statement of "rednecks" are mostly the igonrant ones. Using Vals method you will educate some and the world will be better. That is the best way. For some though education is not wanted or an unwanted affront to thier mind, and I ignore them.

That is why I feel Mr. Pauls attempt to educate is impressive. He is trying to read so they will come back for more.

My WTP say it means both terms expressed...westerner of poor means (no money, dirty cloths hence the possibly of body odour) or likewise as just an offensive remark (stinky sh!t).

I have also had it explained to me that it also refers to westerners that come to Thailand and stay...stick around like bird sh!t. In other words why not bugga off back to where you came from.

So if you are well dressed and have the Brut splashed on, and are confronted with the term on a bad hair day then an appropriate response is "ruu-daak" or "na(high) na(low)".

And while I agree that anybody living in someone else's country should respect their culture it does not mean that the visitor should lie down like a door mat when they are being offended.

Val,

If it wasn't for those cheap flights I wouldn't be able to come to Thailand as often as I do.

You are intimating that they are attracting undesirable people.

So what does that make me?

Wow Tony, nice site... :yikes: :yikes:

Certainly seems to have a high opinion of many Farang :(
I tried to click on the detail of the 80% teacher survey {but the link didn't work so I couldn't see how it was conducted) because that certainly sounded 'iffy' to me, and I am not a teacher so have no particular axe to grind for them!!

Dont worry Gary, I'm in a similar boat to you regarding the affordability of the trips over, imo, Val was merely asking if it could be a contributing factor

Which I suppose in one way they could attract undesirables, but of course they are an essential part for us 'normal folk' to be able to make the occassional trip, so to be without budget flights would not be an option imho, perhaps the airlines could introduce some kind of vetting procedure to ensure the quality of it's passengers :toilet:

Like all attractive destinations Gary, it will attract (and it has, it seems) those with genuine motives, and those without.

Yes of course the cheap flights are going to be an Ibaza alternative

But if you are not one of them..no need to take offence IMHO Get the cheapest flight you can! Checking my Airmiles now

Waens sister told me that when I am not there sometimes people call Waen "Nok" by itself. At the time I took it to mean "tightwad" as she doesn't like to spend too much money without talking to me first even though I told her that the $ that I give her are hers to spend as she wants.

Just before I left I went online to make sure that she had sufficient money and she had more in her acount than I did. Actually the acount is in my name that I set up for her here in the US that is one of 2 that she has an ATM card for.

Why did it take me so long to find a woman that SAVES money? \:D/

Wansman, I used to have a TGF like that. She would tell me the cheapest places to shop, to avoid 7-11's, because whilst very convenient, they were more expensive; and not to eat in particular restaurants as they were more expensive. She said that she wanted to help save my money, for more important things, like buying a house or land.

She was never into gold, as she thought it vulgar and was afraid that someone would attack her to steal the gold. :)

Not long after I met my current GF, I took her into some clothes shops (boutique types) and when she saw the prices, she told me too expensive ("pang maak") and lead me out of the shop. Those to me are all good signs! :D
