languages

PostAuthor: Paul » November 5, 2005, 4:27 pm

I have been installing some programmes - following my (too frequent) reformats. this latest Windows was installed by the shop and whilst it works generally fine - when I install the programmes the language during installation is in thai and I can't read a word !

Nero actually has half the programme in Thai too and some of it in English ???
I have used these programmes before (same discs) and there was never any problem - I guess its something to do with windows ???
Any suggestions
Thanks

Paul, you don't say which operating system you have, or if it is a Mac or a PC.
If you are using Windows XP then you click Start button (bottom left hand side of screen), then Control Panel icon, which should be about half way up on the right hand side. When the control panel window opens then you want the Regional and Language Options icon - the icons will be in alphabetical order.
In my (UK) version of windows I can't see a Thai language, but I guess that there is one in the version sold in thailand. Anyway, you just need to convert anything that says Thai to English (in UK we get a choice of UK English, or American English, so I guess Mr. Gates realises that there is a difference!! :D )
If that doesn't work then I think it all gets a little more complex......but post if it doesn't.. :)

Look in the lower right corner of your screen on the taskbar. Is there a "TH" down there? IF there is then you should already have multi language support turned on. Try holding down the LEFT shift key then press the ALT key. That is how I (you, anybody) switch languages.

Thanks Bob and Wansman

been there - did all the obvious stuff (I know all about the settings) I have installed multi language windows many times.
this is a unique problem and is driving me nusts - when installing programmes its just guesswork which is the 'next ' button and which is the 'exit' button :(

I will drop by the shop who installed it for me and ask them - hopefully :)

Could well be coz I usually install it myself with the same disc everytime - no problem. Maybe the shop installed a Thai copy - after all they are Thai , why would they use a bi-lingual copy ??

Does your Thai version have English or Thai file menus and such ?

File names can be written in English but all instruction boxes and help files are in Thai.If i did not have kids i would have an English version loaded as it drives me nuts trying to work out which button to click. :(

Hmm, maybe I just don't get it, but do not know windoze either, but there must be a better way. With my Mac TW has login which brings up Thai, I have a login which brings up US english.
But we can also switch between languages by pressing command space bar.

What gets me the most is finding the Thai letters needed :!: :?

Good question! Most Mac users like myself never use the help menu's! So I switched to Thai and no it comes up in english. So I searched the apple web site and found this.

ques: Now, OS X allows you to share a single Mac with family members and co-workers using different accounts. But is it possible to have different language settings for different accounts, i. e. English UI on some user and some other language on other users?

ans: Yes, the system language can be set for each user independently in system prefs/international/languages. I should have mentioned that the "some other language" is limited to the 15 which the OS supports, as listed in its tech specs.

Languages:

* English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese

So, without more research - I still do not know. Sometime later I could ad French and see what happens. But if you are looking for thai it is not on the list above.

Being that I am limited to working in english, you might want to post a question on the apple site.
