Laos. What to bring back to Thailand ?

PostAuthor: astrid » October 6, 2008, 8:47 am

Hi again !

Knowing that some of you readers have some info
about what one can take in legaly from Laos I would be happy
to get that info.

Aswell, what is forbidden. Up to what value etc.
Are Laos checking when you leave, are Thai custom checking
when you come back ?

Not talking about contraband, in my case perhaps Antiques, silk etc.
And not to forget liquer. :drunk:

Have a good day, Bo.

Aah yes but you can get that in Sakhorn Nakhorn. Unless our Lao brethren prepare it in a different way. :-k

Pith helmets?? a la' Ho Chi Minh with a red star?? 5 years living in Vientane and I saw only a very few "pith helmets" generally on the heads of an indentured Viet street hawker carrying and selling piles of cheap tourist trash.. The only other place I saw them was on the heads of dork backpacker tourists arriving from Hanoi at the airport who generally wore them in conjunction with their "oh so revolutionary" Che' T-shirts, also bought in Hano.!! The Lao grunt troops still wear a baggy cloth field hat, which was kinda cool, although I never saw them being sold around town.

We always buy wine and beer Lao at the duty free store! There are legal limitations ,but we have never been hassled and i have never seen anyone else hassled!

One time,3 of us brought back 6 bottles of spirits ,3 5L boxes of wine and 3 case of Beer Lao!Other than all the lifting and carrying,no problems!
