PostAuthor: astrid » October 21, 2008, 3:04 am

If I find a Laos Woman ( in Laos ) that I like and want her
to stay with me in Thailand - whats the deal :

Can Laos subjects travel free to and from Laos - Thailand, or
do the have to abide to same rules as other farangs ?

Any info out there ?

Try this ...

It's the Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs website dealing with Visas - a good place to start and most likely you need to look no further.

Astrid, Laos women in Thailand do not fall under "Udon Thani General Topics". Please use the appropriate Forum when posting. I will move your post to a more appropriate Forum.

Lao women, being from an Asean country can enter Thailand any number of times on a 30 day stamp on arrival, or alternatively they can apply for a 60 day tourist visa (fees same as us), (or any other type of visa if they qualify). They are not restricted to 90 days on the stamp on arrival, as we and most other countries are.

Remember though with the 30 day stamp on arrival they do have to travel backwards and forwards often to exit and re-enter.

Are the rules regarding Laos women and Thai driving licenses the same as they are for other foreign nationals?

ie. do they need all the documents including the letter from immigration?

Visas for ASEAN member country citizens, I believe are 60 day stamp-in, no fee. So, if your Lao girlfriend has a Lao passport, it's a stamp across the border. Lao driver's licenses with an International driver's permit (can be purchased in Laos) are honored in Thailand. Note the profusion of Lao license plates in Udon, particularly on weekends. If your Lao girlfriend has only her Lao ID card and "Border Pass" she can stamp in for 3 days only. There is a small fee for that, but I don't recall how much..

Not all ASEAN counties are treated this way.
As i understand it Cambodians are not treated the same way as Laos.

For Lao and Asean citizens it's an automatic 30 day stamp on arrival (free), or they have to pay for a 60 day tourist visa like us. :D

I don't know about the Driving Licence side of things though. What FrazeeD says sounds good, though I don't know the way forward if they don't have a Lao driving licence.. :?
