LCD

PostAuthor: valentine » December 7, 2005, 8:07 am

I have a LCD screen that is smeared where my kids put their fingers on it when playing games. I have tried cleaning it with a computer liquid cleaner, an optical lenses cleaner but to no avail. I am wondering would it be safe to use an ordinary window cleaning spray, or would it damage the surface?Any advise please!!

LCD screens usually have a layer of glass over them so an ordinary glass cleaner should be fine. You have to be more careful with the TFT LCD combined screens that have no coating. You may be able to find a special cleaner in the IT section at the complex for this job.

Firstly and IMO computer literacy begins with house keeping and cleaniness, the kids should be taught to keep their sticky fingers away from the screen and keep their drinks and food away from the keyboard, CDs and other hardware. Sorry, my pet hate is seeing fingernails being poked into my notebook or PC screen and I've had to admonish both young and old.

I have used general purpose window cleaners on my TFT screens for years with no ill effect. They contain ammonia and if that does not remove the grime I don't know what will!!!

Thank you Lee.
Bandung, I totally agree with you, but difficult to supervise when he brings other 9 year olds in to play. The few times I have really got strong on this has earned me the reputation as a miserable old git amongst the neighbours and on one occassion, a two day period of silence from my wife.If Lees advise doesn't work, guess I will have to resign myself to using a dirty screen, or get a divorce

valentine, the best thing you can do is use LUKE WARM water to clean a LCD screens. This is the safest way of cleaning it with out damaging your LCD screens.

try dampening a soft cotton or non-abrasive cloth with a little water, and gently wipe down the screen. For heavier buildup, try adding a little vinegar to the water.
