I did that last year, partition, dual boot loader, and easy BCD for boot loader management.
I hate vista! but have to have it because Uncle Billy took away my sound card drivers in XP.
My only revenge is that I use bootleg copies of XP and Expressions

re computer problems

PostAuthor: kakariki » May 5, 2008, 6:21 pm

I just got my dad a computer because he decided at 90 years old, he would like one, so I got him an Asus 2Gb Dualcore, 2Gb ram with everything else on it including Vista.
I went up to show him how to use it and couldn't believe how hard and slow Vista was to use.
I had heard or running Vista and Xp together, but decided to wipe the hard drive, and start again with just Xp which went on ok, and after searching the net for some of the incompatible drivers and a bit of fiddling around, he now has a lightning fast, easy to use computer, and I can tell him over the phone if he needs any problems sorted out.
I would recommend doing it this way, rather than loading it up with two hungry operating systems.

just like the pic in my avatar, you can only play with 1 system at a time, you choose when it boots.

Ditto I didn't like Vista as my system just wasn't up to it or more to the point my graphics card wasn't... Couldn't be ar5ed upgrading everything so I am happily using XP.

Damn Mister Smith that is one fine lady. 1 hour and a bottle of baby oil that is all I ask!

My Vista does not support my Creative webcam nor my Creative 6.1 surround sound, have to use XP for these two applications. I suppose I could buy a new webcam and sound system which are supported by Vista, but that is an unnecessary expense. So far, I am happy with Vista. The downside is having to reboot when you switch OS's. Next step is to install the virtual PC as per OP's suggestion; this would eliminate the rebooting.

Hi

The Link that you provided talks about Virtual machines. That means in easy language that one operating system is still running and it will generate a virtual second pc to start the second OS.
Also does this mean that your PC needs much more CPU Power and much more memory to realize all this.

The best way here is to do 2 partitions on your harddrive and install separately 2 operating systems of your choice. at startup u can choose which one shold be booted and than it runs separatly from the other.......the negative effect is that u must always reboot to switch the OS and you can never use both on same time. But why should you hehe
