locating someone from 40 yrs ago

PostAuthor: Boatman37210 » January 7, 2009, 2:45 am

Posted on this forum back in March of 2006 and have read it off and on since then. Lot of good information.

I was briefly married to a Thai girl back in 1969. Have nothing but found memories of her with what little time we were married. Marriage took place in Bangkok. I’ve often been curious about what happened to her and thought maybe there might be a chance of contact. I have her name and maybe an address.

I know it has been a long time, but what do you think of my chances of contacting her and any suggestions on how to go about it.

Thanks.

Mr. Boatman, I admire your interest in trying to find your lost love. How ever you might want to hire a private detective. The reason I say this is they will be able to find your lady and not interfere with her current life. Most likely she will have her own family and most likely would not want them to know of a past that might not be favorable.

Maybe she would appreciate seeing you and the private detective could relay that info to you without just getting anyone to do this.

This is a suggestion only. It will be your choice on how to proceed.

Luck to you!!!!!

Hey Beer Monkey. I see your posts on here from time to time.

Thought I might have an address, but checked and I don’t. All I got is her full name and she lived in Bangkok in 1969. She was from a rural village. We had to travel there to get a document from her mother in order for her to be able to get married. I believe it was her birth certificate. Don’t remember the name of the place. Best I can remember it was a village in Northern Thailand, but then I could be wrong about the direction. Even if that were right it’s no help. I know that the taxi ride up there was the fastest taxi ride I ever went on. It’s a wonder we ever made it back alive.

I’m on the Udon forum because it seems to be the best from other forums I’ve visited. This probably is a wild goose chase, but thought you guys might have some suggestions on how to find someone. This is a first, so any thoughts you might have on how to go about it is appreciated. I have sent emails to a couple of PI’s as suggested by panbaeng just to get an idea on cost. One internet site suggested using internet resources before going to a PI, so that is probably what I will do.

As far as her age, she would now be between 55 and 60. Use to have a picture when we were together, but no longer. Back in 1969 everyone said she could pass for Cher’s, of Sonny and Cher, twin sister. She had the same face shape, same mouth, hair, and teeth.

Again, any suggestions are appreciated.

Mmmm not a lot to go on...Northern Thailand could of course be Chiang Mai area rather than this Northeast Area...no name of town/village..all there is is a 'Family' name...going to be a tough one i reckon.
Was it a Taxi ride up from Bangkok all the way..? How long was you travelling..?

If you found the name of the Village/Town, i am pretty sure the family name will still be around.

Out of interest how come you was together only for a brief time..? (up to you if you want to answer that one, if you want to keep it private then thats ok)

It was a taxi ride all the way and round trip took all day. I do remember stopping to rest at a school or university. We sat in a large outdoor pavilion that had tables with bench seats like picnic tables. I remember it because it seemed odd how big the pavilion was and we were the only people sitting there. Tables were made of metal.

As for why the marriage ended, it was my assumption she would come to the US. That never happened. I was going back to college and felt like I needed to stay in the states in order to make a living. My living in Thailand didn’t seem to be an option. We stayed in touch for a couple of years, but then communications finally stopped.

I greatly regret not having gone back to talk to her face to face about the situation. While it is way, way too late, I would like to make a trip back to talk with her at least one last time. That is of course if I can find her and she would want to see me.

Just a couple of thoughts.

1969 main roads would have been about the same I presume (without bypasses).
If it were CM area you went to I cant think of a suitable stop point that would have had a "major school or University" ..... Uthai Thani/Tak maybe, but unlikely. Much more likely to have been Korat, which would mean we are looking in the NE region KK or Udon perhaps.
Was it an Ampher marriage (I assume so if you needed documents from the village), if so, have you a copy of marrage certificate that can be translated? Would the Ampher records be of help, they would have had your mother in laws name and ADDRESS on record, which would then enable you to "zoom in" on the village for your search. I'm sure a private detective would know which hands to "grease" to enable access to the records.
Good luck with your search, and I hope that if you do find her she is in good health.
