Lower cost GPRS than 1-2-Call?

PostAuthor: rickfarang » February 7, 2008, 12:19 pm

I am not using AIS 1-2-Call GPRS to connect to the internet while away from home, and also as a backup for TOT ADSL (which fequently stops; have been using Loxinfo dial-up which is painful).

It appears that 1-2-Call drains about 1 baht per minute when I use GPRS.

Here is my question:
Can anybody recommend a less expensive GPRS service?

Here is the low down for you Rick

Hi Rick.

1 baht per minute is correct if you are not on one of the AIS/ONE TO CALL Mobilelife plans.

You can subscribe to any of their plans without leaving the comfort of your home if you wish!

Just dial *138 on your mobile phone and follow the automated instructions ie press 2 for english etc etc.
Very easy process with either Thai or English instructions.

You will be given numerous options for monthly plans just pick the one that takes your fancy.

Here are there current plans & prices:

3 hrs per month = 39 baht

6 hrs per month = 50 baht

20 hrs per month = 100 baht

100 hrs per month = 350 baht

Unlimited hours per month = 999 baht

You have no obligation & are not contracted to a certain period for any of these plans so you are able to chop & change or even cancel as your needs increase/decrease month by month.

Before you begin the process make sure you have enough credit on your phone for the plan you want if using the card top up/pay as you go system as most of us do.

Once you have gone through the process your phone credit will be deducted by the amount = to the monthly plan you opted for, you will then within a few minutes receive an sms message notifying you that your mobilelife plan has been activated.

you can now connect to the gprs/edge system.

The number i use to connect is *99***# using a Nokia if you use another make of telephone the number could well be different, i used to use an NEC & that would not connect using the above number but *99# worked just fine.

Finally the above monthly rates DO NOT include tax so add another 7% for the true & final monthly figure.
again make sure the the full amount is available for deduction from your phone credit including tax before going through the sign up procedure.

Should you wish to keep tabs on your used/unused monthly minutes you can do that at anytime by calling *139 & following the instructions (Press 2 for english etc)

Hope this helps pal.

Thank you Lee and The Guvnor,

This is exactly the kind of information I had hoped for. The most expensive monthly plan is only 216 satang per minute!

I especially appreciate the detailed explanations of how to go about starting the lower cost service. This will be a back up for TOT ADSL, which has a habit of stopping at the most inconvenient times :?

My best regards,

Rick

They wont take Debit cards, has to be a credit card and it took them 6 months to debit my bank account as i used my bank account, even with the inevitiable copy of everything, in bank book.

Now its sorted, its great, u get a sms to say what ur account will be in 5 days time and also the date it will be debited, then the statement is posted out after its all paid.
