A friend of mine in Bangkok has just tried to get married to a Thai lady that obtained a divorce sometime last year. He was told by Amphoe that under Thai law, a divorced person cannot legally marry again until 2 years have elapsed after the divorce. A bit like decree nisi and decree absolute after 6 months in UK, but I have never heard of that here. I have searched the net but cannot find info on this. Does anyone have actual knowledge of this? If not I suppose contacting a legal adviser will be necessary.

Thanks for that Stevo. From that info it looks like they are saying about one year
before free to marry again, unless remarrying the same person, can't think why any one would want to do that.?I actually asked in the Govt information office in the centre yesterday and they confirmed the two year wait, unless a court order was obtained, in which case its possible after one year. In view of your original posting about pregnancy, I asked about that, as previously I had never heard of it. The answer was: At any time in the first 9 months following divorce the husband can file to have the divorce annulled if the wife is found to be pregnant, it doesn't have to be by him.The thinking behind that appears to be that it changes the grounds on which the original divorce was granted.
Think I'll be staying single, too complicated for me.
