Old age creaping up on me :fryingpan: , forgot about the affirmation of freedom to marry stamped by the embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thanks Paul, so it looks as if you have to travel to BKK anyways.

I have never been married before so where do i get affirmation to say i am a free man to marry ? am i supposed to draft something myself and get it stamped or is there an official body that will i need to get to check marriage records for me. If i have to draft it myself what sort of things do i need to be putting down. thanks again for all your info.

there is just a question on form you get from embassy, so you would put "single", sign form and get embassy to notarized.

You do it yourself - If I remember correctly (it was quite a few years ago) in the pack-up I was telling you about from the embassy there is a guide as to what you should be putting in there.
get it translated and thousands of copies made (before and after it is stamped) Ok - about half a dozen then.

If I remember it states your name age address etc. Marital status, any children and what your employment/income is.

You are making a declaration which is legalised by your signature - so as far as I am aware they will not check everything is true - however why would you lie anyway and say you are not married - if you are ??

I think I had to supply the names of two referees too (but these were never checked - I asked my friends and they heard nothing)

From British Embassy Bangkok website:

Page on "Guidance for British Nationals Wishing to Marry in Thailand"

http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1068717516870

Includes links to both a sample & an example (great if you are called Joe Bloggs) of "an affirmation of freedom to marry" which are at the bottom of the page.

There is a ridiculous fee from the Embassy of 2,625 Baht for the service :(
