I turned up at Immigration this morning and was given my one year extension. Now I just have to sort out the bank transfers deal for next year so I can get the proper bank letter. I am working on direct depositing my US Govt pension in Bangkok Bank as they have a New York Branch.

I did it last month and my DD kicked in the 1st of this month, only wish I started earlier. Keg, were you civil service or military?

Just a quick question to ask about the photocopies of the passport.......
Do they require copies of ALL the pages or
Just the ones relevant to your current visa, plus name/picture page and TM6 ?
Thanks.

Agree with Pompui, in fact I maintain a document case with 3-4 copies of everything (marriage, birth certificates, passport, house book, wife's ID bank statements, income letter). It may be over kill but I leave nothing to chance and if they should want another copy of something than I reach into my black cheap plastic case and hand it to them with a smile.

Thanks for the tips/info guys.
I've got copies of everything requested including every page of my passport plus pictures of our house and a map of where it is located.
I'm planning a "dummy run" to Nong Khai tomorrow to check with Immigration and if everything is in order I'll get my bank letter later in the week and make my application then.
Heres hoping... :D

They've never asked for the above, so please don't volunteer the info unless asked for. I'm going up next month to renew my one year extension and I don't need another hoop to jump through :D

Good luck Z, let us know how went.

Trip today to Nong Khai went very well......
I got the guy on the left hand side facing you who became more affable as the interview went on.
He said all the paperwork was fine so why dont I get my bank letter today?
I said I was planning to go to my branch in Udon for this and make my official application on Thursday or Friday.
He said no need for that, you can get your letter from the Bangkok Bank opposite Tesco Lotus in Nong Khai.
I was a bit surprised by this as I believed the letter had to come from my account branch but, sure enough,we called in at the Nong Khai BB branch and they issued the letter no problem for 100 baht.....had to wait an hour for this but went for a bite to eat at Tesco Lotus opposite.
So back to Immigration early afternoon and all done and dusted.

Passport, they were only interested in current visa pages, including TM6 and page with name and photo.
Letter from British Embassy,verifying income.
Wifes id card and Tabien Baan.
Two 4x6cm photos.
Marriage Certificate.
Letter from bank and photocopies of your bank book......this was what they seem most interested in,that you are able to meet the financial criteria.
Original docs plus one copy.

Papa,I didnt mention pictures of house and map of where it was located so you will be pleased to know they never asked for these. :D
But better having too much stuff and covering every option just in case they are having a bad day !
So thats it ! Another 12 months in Udon and Thailand....might have a few Beer Changs tonight to celebrate ! :D

Zidane Congratulations.....smooth sailing when things are set up right for you. Just one question, did you get a visa extension support of spouse (marriage) or retirement?

Thanks Pops,
I went along with the intention of getting the extension based on marriage but the Immigration guy said my finances qualified me for extension on both marriage and retirement.
Marriage they have to send off to Bangkok,Retirement he just stamps your passport at Nong Khai and you get the visa there and then.
As you know,Retirement visa is 65k per month as opposed to Marriage 40k.but he did say in the future it is up to you what extension you apply for ie.you could apply for Marriage visa next year.
No problem for me with either type,at the moment, but if they suddenly altered the criteria for Retirement to 100k per month or 1.2 million k in the bank that would be a whole different story and the Marriage visa would be the only option for me.
Sounds like your visit was the same as mine.
I found all the Immigration staff relaxed and smiling which was a bit different from peoples experiences a few months back.
Anyway, good to know pictures of your antics at the Nightmarket will keep us all entertained for another 12 months :D :D
