Meeting at Nong Khai Immigration

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

Boy that is a tough one, I've never done it that way. But If I did I would send it so that someone had to sign for it.

I think a quiet conversation with the commander would be my approach. Maybe better if you have your wife do that in Thai explain your situation and ask for help, in a non challenging way. People always like to help never liked to be told what to do.

To be honest I have never done it for fear of it getting lost in the mail. Will EMS get a singnature of receipt?

Best thing is to call them and do what they tell you, not us.

It's not unusual to get two versions in Nong Khai depends on who you ask and also the person asking the questions, Remember no matter how good they are Englsih is a second language to them. Mistakes can happen

As Git says Brom that is a tough one and if it was me I would follow his advice - go to NK this time, ask to see the commander to explain that you live in KK & it is difficult for you to get to NK & you have heard that it is now possible for you to actual do a 90 day by post & what procedure must you follow.
In general, the attitude in NK seems to have had a major change of heart - the "meeting" is just further evidence of that. Logic says to me that it is in their own best interests to accept reporting by post - fewer in the queue, & can do at their leisure.
On the EMS front I have found it as reliable in Thailand as the equivalent system at UK Post Offices - I even renewed my Passport through BKK that way. I did take photocopies of EVERYTHING I sent in case there were issues though :D Would suggest that you do the same if you do ever take the postal route....

I was told by the female officer (captain), along with 14 other farangs attending the meeting, that we could mail our 90 days TM47 in, along with a copy of passport, visa, last reporting slip, and a stamped self-address envelope.

since I entered this post late & reading pops post I think it would be safer to go to the immigration office then to mail your passport to them I consider that method very dangerous of losing a vital document

you don't mail the passport, just copies of pages and they send new 90 day slip.

and just to reiterate what Pop's posted...

Seems we're going back to square one with "he said she said", doubt and disinformation. I also was informed that mailing the 90 day report was acceptable. Bottom line is if in doubt contact the immigration office personally and get the information directly from them.

No problem Ron. I think it's perfectly safe & convenient. You have proof that you sent it with EMS, it gets signed for on the receiving end, it's processed and you get your copy mailed back to you. Should something go amiss you still have your originals and are able to track the EMS letter through this site:

Thanks all,

I will follow Pops advice as he heard direct from the NK Captain (with no disrespect to others) and send by EMS (always sent by EMS in the past AND one can follow its delivery stages on the internet via the Thai Post Office link:

http://www.thailandpost.com/product_paypost_main_en.asp

Click on UK flag.
Then click of Track and Trace Banner on the left side of the screen
Then click on Eng at the top and follow the instructions

Piece of Cake :D

Just enter the EMS code and you can see when delivered and who signed if signature was readable.

As I was last using Korat I will enclose a very short introductory covering letter telling them this and enclose a copy of my Tabien Baan and a map for any office records they keep as I have never proved my current address to their office (only Korat).

wokkawombat, I think the post office can tell how much the stamp should be.

The last time I made my 90 notification by mail, I asked for a 10 Baht stamp for the return envelope (as instructed by Bangkok Immigration Bureau). The clerk at the post office looked at the address on the stamp, weighted the empty envelope and said "3 Baht enough".

What I was not able to explain was that the Immigration Bureau was going to return all of the photocopies as well as some forms in that envelope. In the end, I just begged him to sell me a 10 baht stamp. Make sure the clerk understands what needs to go into the envelope.

Will Nongkhai return all the photocopies for us to use later? I guess we will find out.
