Migraines linked with brain damage

By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Editor Sun Apr 29, 1:27 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People with migraines also may be suffering from some brain damage as brain cells swell and become starved of oxygen -- a finding that may help explain why migraine sufferers have a higher risk of stroke, researchers reported on Sunday.

Also migraines have been found to be genetic and the Doctor said only a genetic cure will work. So migraines runs in the family and in the past difficult to treat but believes researchers now on right track.

Maybe some migranes are genetic, some are not.
Make sure the diagnose is correct. Migranes can have different causes.
There can be problems with the scull (maybe a fall some years back), or the blood flow from or towards your brain.
Maybe there are spinal problems causing it, and maybe in combination with stress.

If you have migraine, I think it would be a good idea to make an appointement with an osteopath who is specialised in cranial osteopathy.

So.... what works for all you migrane sufferers ?
I take Nurofen 400 and a short sleep, usually works

I have noticed fewer attacks since coming to Thailand and often wondered if it was down to the UK climate as I was once told that low atmospheric pressure might trigger it - and as the UK is not exactly the driest Country in the world - it may be true. Grey and miserable most days :( (and so is the weather LOL )

Migraine's; another cure; Sinusplasty

PostAuthor: FrazeeDK » May 2, 2007, 12:04 am

Ear/Nose/Throat Specialists have determined that for some sufferer's of Migraines it is blocked sinus passages. To correct the blockage ENT specialists are now using the same type of balloon angioplasty as used to clear heart artery blockages. After determining through an analysis of sinus X-Rays that the probable cause of a patient's Migraine is indeed blocked sinuses, the patient is put to sleep and a catheter with the ballon device inserted up the nose into the blocked sinus passage. The balloon element is then inflated actually expanding the blocked sinus passage and in some cases cracking sinus bones that may have caused the blockage. The procedure is day surgery, and the results for some have been dramatic...

Try and trust traditional Chinese medicine.

PostAuthor: ttom » May 2, 2007, 3:40 am

I have been punished with migraine for many years. I’ve had several attacks every year, usually lasting between three days and a week.

While working in China friends took me once to the local medical centre for Western treatment. The doctors there where very good and gave some heavy pain killers but put me also on a waiting list for traditional Chinese medicine.

After many questions they gave me a short list of food and drinks I should avoid together with some medicine mixed in herbal teas which I should drink twice daily until finished. Soon after the next attack was a lot less harmful and I didn’t need to interrupt my work. The doctors changed the medicine with teas again and for about three or four month I didn’t suffer any migraine attack. This time I’ve meet them immediately and received some acupuncture treatment which took the pain away within no time. I continued with the medicine for several month but didn’t supper any migraine attack for several years.

Now as soon as I feel that something might be wrong I use 2 Aspirin (plain ASS) twice within 2 hours and drink a lot of water or pure juice with water and luckily get usually away with it. This advice came also from the trad. Chinese doctors. During the past 15 years or even longer don’t suffer from migraine anymore.

I know pretty well what migraine can do. Therefore I am very grateful for al the help I’ve received and can truly recommend the Traditional Chinese Medicine.

It might be wise to ask an older “Chinese” inhabitant of Udon Thani for his Chinese doctor. He might know the right person. Otherwise there are several in Vientiane.

I am a firm believer in Traditional Chinese Medicine. My Aunt in Bangkok beat cancer with a combination of Traditional and Western Medicine. The Chinese mainland has excellent research centers in China for Traditional Medicine.

Accupressure points was shown to me for a headache that has just begin. You lock your two thumbs together and at the point where your middle fingers touches your inside wrist that is the point that you apply presssure in a circular fashion. This has always worked for me.

Hi there,

Yes, accupuncture is worth a try. I suffered with migraines for years. At the worst point I was getting 1 per week and didn't have a life!

1 accupunture session later, it was about 2 weeks before another attack. No. 2 session, then it was about a month to the next attack. Went to 5 sessions altogether until I finally didn't get any. Now, sometimes if I've had a lot of beer and way too much lack of sleep, I feel like I may get one. But I take a couple of regular headache pills, try and get some shuteye, and I never get one. I also try pressing on the points where they put the needles. Don't worry, not around the eyes! Just easy points on your hands. So accupressure may work too.

I sympathise with anyone who gets them as they're terrible things. I'd do ANYTHING not to get them again. So I heartily recommend accupuncture - I was a sceptic until it sorted me out.

Now, if only I could accupuncture my bank account or some other bodily areas to keep up with TG!!
Cheers
