Mobile Internet Devices

PostAuthor: deankham » March 8, 2009, 6:18 pm

Hello All,

Does anyboby use (or know much about) a Mobile Internet device?
(I'm not talking about Wi-Fi but by using a SIM in your computer to access the internet.)

Any info on service providers / costs / coverage (near udon & Nong Han) / download speeds is welcome.

Many thanks,
Dean.

solomon gprs modem about 7k - dtac internet sim card 69 baht and then 399 baht a month for 140 hours
per month - download speeds = slow - can be used anywhere in thailand if there"s a signal - same as a mobile phone.

Or You can use your Mobile Phone (providing it is a good one)....just buy a Thai Sim Card/package and bring a USB lead...plug and play. (might need to load your phones program onto your laptop with the Cd that would of came with your phone))

AIS internet sim - 199 baht. gprs phone w/cable, 3000 baht and up. speed -- slow, but for basics, fine. 100 hrs a month on AIS - 375 baht. more than enough for myself. update all software, up/download pics. have updated/downloaded 50 - 100 megs, took 30 -60 minutes, but stayed connected and worked fine. if needed to do large files say once a week, Pop Pop internet, or once again, reason for a pint at Irish Clock.

thought about the modem idea, but figured for the same price, i get the modem, and the phone w/camera/video, seemed like a bargain to me, and meets all my needs, almost. only negative, if you use, streaming video or websites, such as daytrading, useless for that. 8)
