Mojo's - Is it as good as it was?

PostAuthor: maccavelli » March 15, 2009, 6:10 am

Hello to people in Udon, I've been going to Thailand regularly, for the last 4 years, I go twice a year and my favourite place (I only travel north) is Udon. There are several places that really do it for me there, one is Mojo's. I was there in February in Thailand and I found Mojo's a little disappointing, something has changed, not sure what it is, but it was quiet and didn't seem to have the atmosphere it had a year ago, I know a new owner has come in. But does anyone agree with me, or maybe it was just my state of mind at the time.
I am in England now and I really miss being out there. I will return in September.

One for one of the more regulars... I don't go as much as I used to. Last time I was there was a Monday night and I was the only one there... Even Pew strayed from behind the bar to play pool. Depends on what night you were there. Some places are seeing a downturn in business and it is a sign of the times. I wonder what this Saturday was like as opposed to 1 year ago!

I was having the same conversation with someone about this last week. I'd agree it has lost a little bit of atmosphere recently. Wednesdays and Saturdays are still very busy due to the free buffet and pool comps. The owner is constantly trying to improve things. There is a new Menu with new meals, example Liver and Bacon, or Cottage Pie, both 150baht. Also some of the previous members of staff are back in the bar, Aoy is working there now and Jaeb is back this week. Both very nice girls.
I don't think Mojos is alone. With the current economic problems all bars are a little bit quieter.
Mojos has been very busy this week as it seems to be the preferred place for the young Americans in town to go and have something to eat. I'd like to add that they've been a credit to there country. Nice to see youngsters enjoy themselves and at the same time be polite and curtious to other people.

I was in there last night and had a burger. It was like chewing on a lump of dirt - really dry.

Another one to cross off the list.

I am inclined to agree with the OP that Mojo's has changed. Hard to put a finger on exactly what, but there was definitely something missing when I was there last weekend. Many of the girls had left and been replaced by much less 'bubbly' girls, and the menu although changed was not up to the usual very high standard. The fish and chips used to be fantastic in there and last week was a fish in breadcumbs which is just a second class stand in for a nice battered fish.
One of the highlights used to be having chats and banter with the girls - most of whom knew your name.
That was definitely not there of late.
Maybe just a temporary glitch ? - time will tell

Mojos has gone through a transition and is trying to cater to all and to be a little more profitable, nothing wrong in that, I have never to date had a bad meal and if I have a problem in how something is presented a polite complaint works wonders and ensures next time the same food is prepared better.
it does have one of the best cups of coffee in town.
Girls change like the wind, some seeking their fortunes elsewhere by whatever means they feel able too, the mericans have been in town and they take their toll on the local beauties, however all bars are I am sure feeling the oinch and Thailand as yet apparantly unaffected by the financila downturn is just starting to feel the shockwave, it will I feel affect all of thailand to a geater or lesser extent, as more people move back from the resorts to home as the tourist industry shrinks.

I really liked this place. I didn't dine there but just had a few beers and played pool. Really nice to meet a total stranger from another country and have a few games of pool and a natter. I played some Swedish lads, a Norwegian, and an Aussie guy. All top blokes and hopefully it will be a regular haunt when I go back. If I'm allowed out that is... :D

It seems, for many, the atmosphere of most of the bars has much to do with the ladies employed there! Not knowing any particular girls motives,I have always been under the impression that the most persoable hostesses will attract the most attention by falangs with the good chance of becoming the personal G/F! :-k

Also,I think the comment about the US Air Force being in town and having an immediate effect on much of the more pretty gals that might be having a more beneficial and more enjoyous time of it ,for the moment! =P~
