well, having been in Ban Dung for 2 months, let me make my observations. it is NOT like Udon at all. things are very very quite there. 3 bars. Lisa's of Ban Dung ( never been, never any customers ) Gary's bar, also never been, kind out outside the city center, I like things within walking distance . and Eddie's sports Bar, been there many times. Eddie & wife Pin very pleasant people. Beer is always cold and the food is Very Tasty. Good steaks and very good Bunters Pie's. Had a few, NICE. Eddie's opens at 9:00 for breakfast and those of us who enjoy a morning beverage . He has a room to rent above the bar, okay room. 300 Baht night. hot water in shower, fan and TV. but the TV is hooked up to the TV down in the bar, so you are at the mercy of the football holligans . but they tried their best to accomadate our viewing pleasures.

food, very good Pizza Restaurant. Pizza Italy, owned by an Italian. VERY VERY good Pizza. small starting at 59Baht and going up to Large 350-400 Baht depending on toppings. free internet for paying customers.

many small food stands scattered about, mainly near the park, which is downtown. good soups, rice dishesw all well priced.

accomidations. stayed at Eddies for about 10 days. it was okay. when I had posted by inquiry about Ban Dung, someone had mentioned the Guest House near the Government Bank, how they would not stay there. Well, perhaps something has changed. We stayed there in the daily rental, VERY nice indeed. TV. Fridge, Hot Water A/C nice bed and either chair or couch in every room . To me it seemed brand new. They have 11 rooms for daily rental prices starting at 400 B up to 500 B night. They also have 4 long term apartment rentals for 5,000 B month. Cable, Hot Water, A/C, no fridge the name is Ngern-Thong Mansion, ph. # 083-1477339, and to Lee, they might be willing to place ad with you.

Eye Candy, well same as everywhere in Thailand, nice. some of the surrounding Villages are Very Very nice indeed.

over-all my trip to Ban Dung was Very Pleasant. scale of 1-10 I give it a STRONG 6

Just one point - you talk about somebody not recommending the hotel (guest house) near the bank. I think you may have confused this with a recommendation not to stay at the (reportedly) roach and rat infested "hotel" over the road from the bus station. This was apparently the original and only rental accommodation in Ban Dung up until a few years ago.

As far as I am aware, no farang (unless they are the most keea niow) would ever stay there these days.

It's a 40kmsx2 ride for me, I remember a good Thai restaurant on the main road, definitely need a good motive to drive up there

We was in Eddie's yesterday, had one of his fine burgers with chips, and a couple of cold Leo's.
Good honest English grub, and Eddie is a fine host, always cracking off a funny one-liner.
The Bunters pies are good, had one on another visit.
You can buy the pies to take home as well.
His two rooms are a godsend to newbies on a first visit to the girlfriends village, who bulk at sight of a village sh@tter, and the lack of western food.

yes, the Italian Restaurant has several Italian dishes, and yes, Lasanga is one

Although,I am not eating any delicious lasagne at the moment,it is one of my favorites!But everytime I order it in Thailand,I am disappointed because they don't seem to use Ricotta cheese in the making?
