Nasty rumours regarding visa changes

PostAuthor: Paul » May 7, 2007, 11:58 pm

The rumour mill is in full swing again and this week I have heard two rumours from people who have told me "I have heard that..........."

1) The first one told me that the deposit required for a marriage extension is now raised to 800,000 baht.

2) The second one told me that the deposit required for a retirement visa has been lowered to 400,000 baht.

Sounds like crossed wires to me and besides, its always told like "I have heard from a friend of a friend..... etc etc .........."

On the rumour. I do know at the last seminar of immigration, the difference between the two levels was discussed, but with a view to making them the same, not swopping them. But who knows. TIT.

Either way I qaulify as to monthly so I'm not worried about it. The ever take out the or and I'm in trouble LOL LOL

If everyone just takes a big breath when they doubled the requirements for married did anyone have to leave, I don't know anyone who did, even if they couldn't produce the 40K per month.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this time of year is stressful for me. I have found it is never the reality that gets me stressed it's the what if's. So far the what if's haven't come up LOL

It is always stressful to have your fate determined by bureaucrats that are not on the same page!Makes you realize how powerless you are in this country!

With the October the October '06 changes, it seemed inconsistent to require a married couple of have 400k while a single retired person needs twice as much (800k).

My solution would be to drop the single person to 400k or even 200k, but knowing where we are, it seems more likely that they will raise one rather than lower the other.

A married person is allowed to work (given the correct work permit) wheras a retired person is not and therefore has to rely solely on his savings.(Hence the requirement to prove you 'have the ability' to provide 800,000 per year )

Actually when I first came here 800 was the number that was required for a single person.

But if he was married to a Thai it was 200K and then changed to 400K
