New New requirements for marriage visas - January 10, 2008
Don reports: (We) paid our annual visit to Immigration this morning, to renew my annual visa. There is a new requirement now: We must submit four (4) photos of our residence, with both of us in all four photos. One photo must be of us standing outside the building, with it in the background. The other three must be of us in different locations inside the residence. No mention was made of photo size, but the samples on the desk were rather large. Today is Thursday; I have four days, until next Monday, to submit the photos or else the visa-extension request will be canceled. We saw several people coming in dropping off photos with the officials and wondered what that was all about until the officer explained it to us. So be warned... Also, we had to draw a map to out place. I believe that was another first.

Guess someone at immigration will look quite puzzled then all the married farrangs start to show up with hand drawn maps and their family album...

Applied for a non-immigrant multiple entry visa based on marriage at the Thai Consulat in Gothenburg, and all they wanted was copy of marriage certificate and copy of wifes id-card or passport. No proof of income... Definitely no family photo...

Don't know if this is really a "new requirement". If you do a search on ThaiVisa you'll find that some posters have already reported having to submit photos last year. Some were asked for wedding pics and of the couple standing in front of their residence to include the house address or number. Can't remember which Imm offices were requiring this, but it all boils down to "at the discretion of....."

Just wondering, I have read some of the ThaiVisa threads. I hadn't noticed any of them mentioning whether they had they submitted a copy of house book or not. If they had the house book, maybe the immigration wouldn't have asked for pictures, if that is what did actually happen.

Good point Cliff. When I submitted my application I included a copy of my house book. When the official saw it he gave me a thumbs and said "dee dee very good".

As for the photos, if the applicants are in a legitimate marriage than it shouldn't be a problem to provide the photos. Not that the photos couldn't be faked, but maybe just another control to weed out the marriages of convenience.

Ever heard of a "contract marriage"? Young enlisted Marines & Sailors were known to do it in order to get out of living in the barracks.

Right now, as far as I'm concerned, it's only hear say and what was posted on ThaiVisa. I have never been asked for maps or pictures so it could a bunch of hogwash and some people just want to get others all stirred up for fun. So I'm taking all of it with a grain of salt, seeing is believing!!!!!

More importantly, which Immigration office is asking for such photos?

They certainly are a fickle bunch, with requirements changing from office to office. And of course, we seem to have won 1st prize with the bozo in NK

Except for the possibility of extra more restrictive measures being added each year,I don't see what the big deal is about submitting some photos and a map,as long as we are informed ahead of time,it is not much of an inconvenience!Surely not enough to move out of the country

Ixxiz please indicate where your quote comes from.

Also it does not say which Immigration office.

It sounds a windup to me too. After all you could turn up with photos taken outside the Hotel or Guest House where you are staying. I don't believe there is any requirement that you have to be living in a house together!

Stan how much B/S are you willing to take ?
let assume the poster is correct do you really want to take photos of your home with you in front as well as inside just to prove you live there ?
what is wrong with a simple letter addressed to you at your address ?
now if they want that I will show them a envelope addressed to me by V.A adm. USA if they reject that then they can kiss my azz
I will not submit photos my wife will against my judgement

With prior notice,I don't consider it BS!We don't make the rules and in my estimation this is nothing!

There are alot of things that are done in Thailand that I believe can be improved or could be done in a better manner!Taking 4 photos and drawing a map are not enough to make be obstinate acting or furious about the request!
