My first thought also was that it was another Val windup and he finally learned the difference between an apostrophe and a comma.

computergeek and jjhank.....TWO windup merchants in the same thread?? Love is in the air, you can smell it everywhere.... but it smells more like bullsheeit. Try your posts in http://www.thaivisa.com/ and they will hang you out to dry.

I just read the OP and subsequent postings and am 'blown over,' by the amounts of money involved. This poor Isan farming family must be swimming in nokias and honda waves. For them I guess life is beautiful. I am happy for them.
I remember my first salary in Thailand being 17,000B (1996) a month and I lived like a king. When I last worked in Thailand it was 50,000B and that kept the happy hours at the 'cat house' happy too. 60,000B or even 45,000B in the sticks around Nakon Nowhere is insane.

I've only just got around to reading this thread. I couldn't believe what I was reading!!

Why ask for advice if you have already made up your mind and aren't going to take the advice given?!

Both these cases look like lost causes to me. If you want to give them money, give them 4500-5000 baht a month, - that's about what they would earn if they had a job and would still manage to send some home to the family.

If you send me 45K a month I'd happily travel for miles to chat to you in an Internet shop, - with or without a webcam!!! I'd maybe even try and chat to a couple of other guys at the same time whilst I am there, who maybe also send me money, - it's called "economies of scale".

Wake Up!!! She can live on 5k a month and will IF she loves you!!!

If you want to take care of the world's poor, give to a reputable charity, otherwise it seems to me that you are most definitely being taken advantage of.

Get out now, or at least stop giving them money and see what happens and how much they really love you!!

Well computergeek has taken care of things real good...delt with the mafia types( nasty piece of work) done landfill, organised a 90 year land lease, visited bkk slums, brought some sunshine and creature comforts into a poor issan family, had a wall built, rented a house and organised a phone (not sure why you have not brought a computer with webcam for her to save her travelling a 30klm round trip 'rain or shine')
maybe its next on the list... all this from a 4 week escorted first time trip to los .

i take my hat off to you, you've done good =D>

I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said here. That's a lot of money for a very short time, and a very short time to be so sure about someone.

But I'm not in a position to criticize or applaud since I don't know any of the parties involved.

Flip a coin. 8)
