nice people in the visa service

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

It's always nice read something like the letter that was posted. It seems that at times, even immigrations personnel can be real helpful. There me differences in what is needed for the visas or how may be treated while trying to obtain the nessecary documentation. I have never had any problems with the people in Nhong Khai, they have been very helpful. When finally got our papers back from Bangkok, the people at Nhong Khai please to tell us that the 1 yr extension was approved. They were very helpful and curtious to us while we were there. They also made sure I understood what was needed to get the 1 yr extension. I have read where others have had problems with immigrations. I guess it is a toss up of what kind of mood they are in at the time. It was told to me that a member of the forum had problems with getting an extension for the 3rd time, and it was the immigrations in Bangkok that had disapproved the extention because of a difference in a bank statement and bank book amounts. (the amounts were well over 400,000฿) I will see what happens in August of this year when I need to do another extention, and hopefully they will trouble free as what the 1st extention.

Not really relevant to Pops posting but didn't want to start another heading.
It has just been announced that Pol Maj Gen Suwat Tumrong Siskul, Commissioner and Head of the immigration police, that along with myself many had the pleasure of meeting last year, has been dismissed from his post and made inactive. Apparently in a sweep of those that had close associations with the Thaksin camp.
Oh well going to have to look for another contact, I guess

agree, immigrations, with one exception, that was finally worked out, has always been a pleasant experience.

to add to val's comments, it's unfortunite that many people appointed or moved into positions of gov't office by thaksin, whether due to patronage, nepotism, qualified or not, we will never know. but he was a businessman, whether he played fair or not, most businessmen put people they can trust and are qualified to run the business in jobs that require their expertise. unfortunitely the ones who are qualified and make a difference for the better are going to fall thru the cracks, simply for being considered 'guitly by association' instead of smart business people who can do the job better than the next patronage appointee, from someone who hasn't succeeded at anything besides political/office politics.

I think as long as I'm here I will hear good stories and bad stories about immigration.

The bottom line is have got to to go with the flow, give them what they ask for and they will be easy to deal with, if you don't they won't.

They really remind me very much of the peronnel who worked for me in Law Enforcement, there is a proceedure and that is what will be followed. No amount of argument. logic presented is going to change the proceedure in the office. The Commander might, but we won't.

I hav had those occassions that I have been asked to provide additional documents, or some monir thing cahnged for the lat reewal, but nothing that wasn't impossible to do. But it does make the heart rate go up a bit when it happens. But once I jumped through the hoop it wa done again for another year.

So that one or two days a year you just got to do it thier way and you will for the mot part find them easy to deal with. You want a fight you will sure get one.
