NO MORE TORTURE

PostAuthor: merchant seaman » April 21, 2009, 11:23 am

Isn't it great that terrorists will no longer be tortured? Now if we could only get the terrorists to abide by the same ruling. If a detainee in Qitmo is executed ever time an act of terrorism is directed at the U.S. would it be considered torture? Give me a break.

ms it seems that you have assumed the title of Udon Map's new resident American conservative. Enjoy the role, but be prepared for some responses when you post nonsense such as your OP.

If torture is so effective, and an essential tool, why did this happen?

9/11 mastermind waterboarded 183 times: memo

US President Barack Obama has visited CIA headquarters to defend his decision to release memos detailing the organisation's controversial interrogation techniques.

Mr Obama told CIA staff they should not be discouraged by his decision to release the once-secret Bush era memos.

"I know the last few days have been difficult. I acted primarily because of the exceptional circumstances that surrounded these memos," he said.

"Particularly the fact that so much of the information was public."

The New York Times says it has seen a classified version of one memo which says self-confessed September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was subjected to waterboarding 183 times..............

Couple of interesting articles on the use of torture.
The first is about the history of torture & is an easy read.
http://www.answers.com/topic/torture
The second is a bit more challenging and discusses the effectiveness of torture..

It would appear that torture is of limited use in gaining useful information. It's main aim would be to obtain a "confession" from a suspect that confirms the torturers beliefs in his guilt - especially if it involves the naming of other suspects!!!

I suspect revenge is more to the forefront of the thinking of some of our correspondents.

And then they like to tell people that they are "better" than the terrorists :yikes:

love them or dislike them( i like and have many americian friends)the fact is they suffered an attack unprecedented in history. The world was stunned, just imagine how americians felt. After such a well planned evil attack, all and any method's to get the intellgence needed to prevent a repeat is justified. The rest of the world has no right to judge or pass comment on what method's america choose to defend it's people.
God bless america

Waste of good water that...unless they used the dirty stuff they saved when doing the washing up...but even so that can be used to water the garden.

Yes, wasn't my cup of tea either. But old Charlie is right, these are the people that you're up against in this war on terror.

As a naive Liberal, I've always wondered whether it was really worth carting these turnips all the way to Guantanamo Bay for interrogation or just doing away with them in theatre; British Asians, mad Somalis, wayward converted Americans and Australians included. Who would've known, it's not as though we're out to win hearts and minds, these people are hardened zealots.
