I always thought that all the bordering countries do not offer non imm visas, only tourist and that if want non imm o then just go to nong khai immigration with the paperwork.Does it mean every year you have to go vientienne to renew?
I prefer to stay in Thailand and renew whether nong khai or if they start to piss me off then Bangkok.

pompui, you don't have to that every year. Once you have Non Imm O, all you have to do is the extension ever year, and do the 90 day reporting (whether tell you have to or not, play safe). Make the first extension is during the 3rd month of the Non Imm O, this way if you don't have something they want or need you have the time to get it.

Confused myself for a moment.non imm o visas are generally applied for at your own countries consulate ie for me uk or specifically Hull and you have to go out of Thailand every 90 days to keep the 1 year visa. How long has Vientienne been offering this as a friend of mine went to Mukbahan? and was refused a non imm o,they told him go back to England for that.Did not realise you could keep applying for this visa year in year out, thought was a one off option.Marriage visa would have been more appropriate than non imm o visiting relatives, as Papaguido had all the paperwork and then just renew at Nong Khai. All the cost involved going to Laos and then Laos again every 90 days seems to make it more costly than a marriage visa option.
ps and also I thought if under 50 yrs old cannot apply for non imm o if saying to support children/family.

Wow  I to was under the impression that consulates neighbouring Thailand no longer issued Non Imm "O" visa's and no banking records required, I amazed in Amazing Thailand.
If anyone else has experience of this I am sure we would all be interested to here.

Papaguido, come back on forum and tell us more.So I should ditch my marriage visa, due for renewal next week, and go to Laos get a one year non imm o visa and then show hardly any paperwork ie 400,000 baht in my account and then keep going out of the country to reapply for a non imm o every year. If no restrictions on how many times you can have it in your passport then I will never have to see the miserable man at AEK immigration ever again.Too good to miss out on.

For Americas, and guessing most other nations with a slight variation due to nationality, but Americans have a couple options. The thai consulate will issue a one year non -0- visa for marriage/support of thai family. This visa must be applied for out of Thailand, and is valid for one year, with a requirement to exit/reenter every 90 days. This visa takes a little less paperwork and financial statement requirements, and easily obtained than the extended version, once you have obtained at least on non extended. The extended version is just that, an application for extended stay (more than 90 days) in Thailand. The extension of this visa, must be applied for in Thailand, and requires a bit more paperwork, but once approved, no need to exit/reenter every 90 days, simply report to immigrations in country every 90 days.

As noticed and as we all know by now, any consulate on any given day, served by any given employee in any different mood may give you different results. Even though this is a one year non -0- visa, the consulate in laos doesn

Wow, a lot of confusion here. I applied and received a Non immigrant "O" single entry visa good for 90 days based on marriage/family support. Another option is the same visa and requirements but it's multiple entry (sometimes referred to as one year visa) as LA stated in his post. According to the consulate information board (which appeared to be current) the multi-entry visa is available there.

My next option is apply for the one year extension at Nong Khai immigration (this where the 90 day reporting comes in). However, now I'm thinking may be just to do back to back 90 day Non Imm O visa's. Not sure what I'll do yet, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
