snowman I suggest you read, and take in what Lopburi3 has to say on the subject of visas.

He, amongst all of us others on this Forum, knows what he is talking about when the subject is Thai immigration matters.

Alternatively, and ignoring Marmite's prejudices, you can go to the Thai Visa forum, which also has a wealth of experience and expertise (amongst some dross) on this subject. However, given that Lop3 was previously recognised on TV as "the" expert on visas, it might not take you much further.

Marmite The Dog wrote:It seems most of you can't read properly.

You cannot get a visa in Thailand, for Thailand.

You can change one type of visa (that was obtained outside of Thailand) to another type, if you meet the requirements at a Thai Immigration Office.

:fryingpan:
I believe you are correct and this is what I was suggesting!

Did you read it a different way?

1. The OA visa is for long stay (retirement) and is only issued at a Consulate in the country you live (for a one year permitted to stay stamp on arrival in Thailand. It is more complex and requires medical and police paperwork.
2. For marriage you can easily obtain a non immigrant O visa - you can do that in home country, other country, or convert at an Immigration office if you qualify for one year extension of stay (400k in bank account or 40k per month income). Normally you arrive on a single entry of such visa and then extend at immigration if you have the funds. Or you can do the conversion from tourist visa to non immigration inside Thailand if already hear.
3. You do not convert a non immigrant OA visa - you extend your stay on a yearly basis using a TM.7 form if that is what you want to do.
4. There is no such thing as a 60 day or tourist OA visa. A tourist visa is TR and not non immigrant.
5. 12 years ago there was no such thing as an OA visa. The meaning is non immigrant "O" (for other reasons) and "A" (for pre approved one year stay). As said this is for retirement and only done in home country.
6. If you qualify for both marriage and retirement (over age 50 with 800k in bank or 65k pension or combination most people will use that method as it is less paperwork for all to make the one year extensions of stay.

I have a Type O visa issued in Australia valid for one year and based on Marriage to Thai National.
On arrival at Bangcock on 5th March it was stamped stay untill 2nd June, 3 months stay.
What do I have to do on or before 2nd of June? Cross the NK Bridge and get another stamp for 3 months?
Or deal with Immigration officials at NK? #-o

Muppet, it sounds like you have a 1 year visa - multiple entry. If so, cross the bridge and return as soon as you like. If in doubt ask Immigration.

also, don't forget to exit/enter, just before your visa expires, for an additional 3 months. or if wanting and having everything necessary, extend in country, then no more exit/reenters, but you will need a reentry visa, or a multiple reentry visa if you do make exits, or you will violate the extension. 8)

Git,
A multi-entry "O" visa was 95GBP in Hull Con. last year.
Cheers Doug.

Doug, Git lives in Thailand, is asking about Visa renewal (and is American), so Hull is not relevant.

A visa renewal within Thailand is 1900 baht. A multi re-entry visa is 4000 baht. A single re-entry 1000 baht.

Thanks Arjay only plam at the moment is to ride Malayasia nest ride season, so single might be the best way to go. Does that change your 90 day reporting dates? I might get into Loa but I really doubt it.

Exploring the south and Malayasia is plenty for one season.

Maybe we should have used the word "extension", as opposed to "renewal", as I believe that is how Immigration view them.

If you are sure you won't be exiting and re-entering more than once or twice in the remainder of your visa period, you could stick with a single (re)entry permit. I prefer to get the multiple, in case I have to leave at short notice for family illness type situations, or want to cross to Laos etc. Also it saves the hassle of yet another visit to Immigration.

When you re-enter and fill in the arrival card, you are in effect notifying your address at that point, so the 90 days should start again from that new date. Though I often feel uncomfortable following that new date when I next notify.
