A mate and i will be heading to Nong Khai on 23rd, 24th and 25th October and i was wondering if anyone has any accomodation recommendations?
We will be on motor bikes so somewhere we can park the bikes in relative safety would be good and somewhere where we won't be frowned upon if we take some company back to the room with us. :oops:
I have searched for suitable accomodation but the reviews are confusing. I had intended to stay at The Meeting Place but they only have 1 room with A/C for that time. It is close to Naga festival time so i didn't want to leave until i arrive for fear of missing out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

seesibet, if you do a search on your topic I think you will find that there are several previous threads with lots of relevant information.

And yes the Huan Lai apartments do have a covered (under building) car park!

As i mentioned previously, i had searched for relevant topics and had actually read the thread you linked, but there just seemed to be a lot of conflicting comments about some of the accomodation so i thought i would try and get some up to date info from those in the know.
I must admit though, the Huan Lai had escaped until now. I guess it was the word "apartments" that through me, back here that would mean self contained units for long term rent. I guess over there it means something different. Thanks for the info.

There really is not any bike or M/C stealing that goes on in Nong Khai that I have ever heard about except a kid tried to take a motorbike from in front of the meeting Place 2 years ago.People leave their motorbikes parked on the streets overnight on a regular basis with no problems.I have lived in NK for over 3 years and I have never heard of a motorbike theft.I ride my bicyle all around NK early in the mornings and in the early evenings and I see motorbikes everywhere that have been out all night on main streets and small sois!On my deadend soi there are 6 motorbikes left outside all night everynight!It is a very quiet community at night,rolls up about 9 PM

Sounds like my sort of place. I have been on a couple of bike adventures in Thailand now, and each time i get the same run down....if you lose it, you own it! So i have always tried to find a place where the bike is secure. It would be a bit of a downer on the trip if i had to buy a new bike to replace the one i lost.
From what you have said, i can stop stressing. I wish home was like that, a locked garage, anchor bolt and alarm doesn't seem to phase them too much if your bike is the type they are looking for. Thanks again.

Seesibet, I have left my car overnight, and also when I went across the bridge to Laos for longer visits away, with no problems at all.

The (Huan Lai) apartments consist of one room with en suite shower room (HW), AC, TV, and most, but not all, rooms have a fridge. 400 baht per night. Reception (and thus car park) manned 24 hours.

I don't suppose you know if the Huan Lai apartments have a website? I have googled them but nothing comes up. I did notice on another website that the Huan Lai has internet available so i thought they might have a website. If not, i will try ringing them.
By the way, what is the procedure for phoning up that way. I tried to phone the Irish Clock in Udon last night to book some accomodation because their web page appears to be jammed on their home page so i couldn't access the site. I kept getting a message saying "the number you have dialled is incorrect". The number i called was 0011 (my idd code) 66 (country code) 042 247450 (Irish Clock number). Maybe i need to drop a number or add a number....not sure?

I and the TW were down in Patts last week Our hotel was absouloutley FULL of THEM,And they started doing what our germanic friends did in the 70s and 80s in Spain,RESEVERING ALL the sunbeds by the pool for their FRIENDS by putting towels on them !!
