Nong Khai provides numerous opportunities to access the internet. Internet cafes are all over the town now and Free Wi-Fi hot spots are beginning to pop up around here and there also. Many businesses such as hotels, bars and many others offer free wireless internet access.
If you’re staying in Nong Khai on a more permanent basis you may consider GPRS as an alternative option. All you need is a GPRS enabled mobile phone, internet SIM card and a computer. Connect the mobile to your computer via Bluetooth, or a USB cable, insert the NET Sim into your mobile phone and dial-up via your computer. It’s not incredibly fast with average speeds around 112kpbs, however it’s faster than standard dial-up and you will be able to access the internet from anywhere within the kingdom. Most mobiles have GPRS access these days, but if doesn’t have this technology, don’t despair; you can buy a GPRS modem card from the shopping complex to do the same job. Just slot into your laptop and you’re ready to go. Net Sim cards are available from most mobile phone companies, we recommend AIS (now named Telewiz), they give you 200 hours access per month for only 540 baht. Telewiz is located on Prajak Road, heading East from the main city.
If you’re living in Nong Khai and have your own telephone line you may consider ADSL broadband, TOT and TT&T offer several packages starting from around 590baht unlimited access/download per month, with speeds starting at 512kpbs, it’s pretty reliable too for basic use. Contact 1103 for more information.
If you’re located a little further out of town but are out of range of a telephone line and/or ADSL then you could install a broadband internet satellite dish. IPSTAR offer this service, the cost per month is a little higher, however it provides high-speed internet access to even the remotest of properties. See this website for
