Nov. 21, 2007...VISA from Nong Khai

Thai and Lao visa laws, help and advice...

PostAuthor: Bump » November 22, 2007, 10:56 am

Well DD posted on facts of what happened to him, not conjecture.

I would just imagine that yesterday was not a good day for him. I for one have all that I have right here and I think DD is in the same boat. If I were going through the annual ordeal and a immigration officer said to me not enough money out of the blue I would freak out. Cause the next thing I would be expecting would be a seven day visa to get my butt out of the country. So a bit sensitive maybe I know I would be.

So I don't know if Nong Khai is misreading the rules or if the rules changed, but I know I have to deal with them. So I really need to know what I have to do to protect myself and my family in Nong Khai. Why they do thing the way they choose, I don't know but I know one line in the law gives them a huge amoung of discreation.

DD may have been vrey lucky yesterday he wasn't dealing with Mr. grumpy, who has just as much authority to deny a visa extension as anyother immigration officer.

So we can blame everythimg on Nong Khai as to thier inability, to read and understand laws but in the end they have the appraoved and denied stamp on the desk. Yes there is an avenue of appeal, but does anyone really want to be a position to use it?

I'm sure Arjay meant nothing personal towards DD in his post.

So a minor misuderstanding, but I'm very grateful to DD for sharing this experience. I imagine trying to write that yesterday without injecting attitude into the post was a very difficult thing to do. He did a good job.

Sorry for my terse reaction. I just spotted your apology after I posted!

If I have any irritation it is with Immigration!! I wasn't questionning your experiences which were clearly real and a good comprehensive report.

Well I'm happy to see that is over with everyone meant well and in the end it came out well.

Arjay based on what we saw with Lee and now this it does appaer that rules are changing and they are not becoming easier. I checked the immigration website last night and saw two orders that were repealed, both of which dealt with easing the application process.

What I was looking for were these rule changes, I didn't see them. But, I have learned that means very little.

There were postings in Thai that I couldn't read, so they may be in those I have no idea.

concise listing by DD.. But.. Probably if other folks do such a neat listing as they go through the Visa process, do you want to bet each NK Immigration officer will make them jump through slightly different hoops.. I guess the bottom line is that everyone should "worse case" the renewal process and try to have every piece of paper possible to preclude running up and down the highway many times... I reckon Bureaucrats are the same everywhere in the world eh??

On the entry stating that the Immigration guys presented a form listing various permutations of pension/bank account.. If anyone gets a current listing from Immigration that specifically shows precisely what folks need for renewals, how about scanning it into a Doc or PDF and posting it.. Then at least you could print it off and use it to show the Immigration folks you're complying with THEIR written guidance.. Perhaps getting the name of the officer who provided the written guidance could be given too for added weight..

agree frazeeDK about someone in vicinity posting a latest guideline sheet from nong khai immigration on marriage and retirement.
friend went early nov to renew his marriage visa, has more than enough cash in bank account,no pension and he is over the age of 50 and they renewed his visa on the spot.no requests for a mixture of both.if the regulations have changed since early nov then surely thaivisa forum would have many postings about this rule change.
will wait for other forumites to post either confirming rule change or not.Maybe when the new government comes in we can expect clarification of the visa requirements or more amendments?

Hope I didn't create too much confusion.

It seems that I pretty much hit the nail on the head then, with my earlier post:-
arjay wrote:40K is the monthly income required to support a Marriage visa and 65K is the amount required for a retirement visa based on monthly pension/income. Who or why someone should be cross pollinating the amounts, I don't know.

Whether it was the mention of the marriage certificate or what, but most of us including myself had indeed thought you were talking about a marriage visa!

Everyone should remember that in the list of requirements for visas and extensions etc.,the immigration officer has the right to ask for any additional information he wants and the power to deny or approve!
