Numb face after dental visit

PostAuthor: izzix » March 28, 2008, 12:25 am

one of my neighbors has just returned from LOS ,and whilst he was there had to have emergency treatment for a bad tooth which was extracted by a local dentist in issan town.
The trouble is the injection hasnt worn off after 2 months and his face is still numb and he dribbles a lot . His balance is also in a bad way .
I presume he got a shot of lindocane before the tooth was taken out but i have never heard of such a thing .
Anyone heard of such a thing and how long before his face is back to normal?

I'm thinking instead of numbing the nerve, somehow they have severed it, or maybe he should check that the dentist didn't leave a clamp or something in his mouth.

Prolonged Numbness

PostAuthor: Garnet » March 28, 2008, 8:56 am

I located this complaint from someone who'd had an extraction that was associated with prolonged numbness:

So I guess it happens, as explained here:

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dentistry-966/prolonged-numbness-wisdom-tooth.htm

Also: Sustained numbness in the lower lip and chin, caused by trauma to the inferior alveolar nerve (during removal of the lower wisdom teeth). Complete healing of the nerve may take three to six months. In rare cases, the numbness, although not disfiguring, may be permanent.

That's from here:

But I'm no bloody expert -- I haven't been to a dentist since 1975!
