open heart or angioplasty back from Sirikit

PostAuthor: 38nholding » March 24, 2008, 10:14 am

So the surgeon from surikit ,25 y.o. if he is a day. Now thinks open heart is difficult because of possible complications.NO KIDDING !! ,infection ,etc and up to and including ,liver or kidney failure. As well as a possible 6 month wait.
He recommends angioplasty ,but because of the lenght of the lesions he will put two or three stents in unison,in each lesion! Sounds a little like what I did around the house here ,perimeter drains!!And the third lesion is a little difficult to get at so that one could take three stents ,so he is talking of upwards of 7 to 9 stents for three blockages.
Now do you want the cheap wire mesh stents that 25% of people get complications, or do you want the medicated ones that only 5% of people get complications (ah,give me the cheap ones everyone knows farang keen yow!)
So for the angioplasty about 600,000 bhat . Kiss my Canadian ... I seem to be stable with the meds . b.p. down and for that kind of money me and the wife can sit it out in Canada for up to 6 months and spend the summer on the west coast . (Vancouver )
Will now jump to visas and se if anyone has tried to take Thai wife to Canada for a VISIT. Thank you for letting me vent
P.S. Waiting for 1.5 hours to see the doc,and the pillar next to me had about three long dried snots wiped on it ,and I am sure they had been there since last sept . What a dump.I am getting tired of pigs in general.

Great rant! That should help. It made me feel better just reading it.

It seems that you would do well to consult another surgeon. That sounds like a lot of stents. It might be that when this kid was in school, they let him practice putting stents into dummies and he wants to do it because he is more comfortable putting in stents that doing surgery. As I said - that's a lot of stents, and lots of chances for complications. You might want to consult one of those expensive surgeons at Bumrungrad who had practiced in other countries and have had a lot of experience.

In any case, the seriousness of your condition is recognized. I hope you fare well and aren't suffering a lot of discomfort from your condition.

I got the cheap wire mesh one back in 1997 but it was before the medicated ones came along. Mine is still holding back the plaque buildup but I can't even imagine getting two or three stents in tandem. Wow. I agree with rickfarang that another opinion is needed and Bumrungrad does have a world class cardio care department even if it's just to get another opinion. Price quote for all of those stents is 600,00 baht? Wonder what Bumrungrad is charging these days for multi-bypass surgeries? Last blog I saw it was around $8,000 USD. Wish you the best of luck, 38n.

I don't know WHAT to tell you about the dried snot streaks on the pillar. Maybe the place is infested with snails? Makes you appreciate AEK a little more, maybe. lol.

Well I have little knowledge of the topic, or want to know too much about it either, but I would certainly agree with the suggestions to get a second or third opinion on the subject, from other Doctors and hospitals.

Have my angiogram on c.d from Sirikit.(100bhat) .And will go to Bumrungrad Saturday to see about a second opinion.I am hoping for stenting and a price of under 400K. What I hope and what I get are two different things . International office at Paulo(plug) have been fantastic.
7 cecius and blowing rain in Vancouver . With all its inherent problems here ,it is better than there!! Thank you .

Interesting concept, LA, we could whip up some home-made stents and save 38nholding a bundle!

More seriously, I hope your second opinion shows you the way to resolve your problem.

GOOD LUCK!

Bumrungrad is guesstimating at a starting price of 330000 bhat , a far cry from 600000 ,but we will find out more when me and the Mrs. fly down on Saturday. I am thinking that you guys could probably do this proceedure with some 150 pound test filament and some straws.

And Bumrungrad? say that quickly three times. " I'm flying into Savannapumi airport and going to Bumrungrad hospital"?. I am sure there are a bunch of Thais sitting around a room right now laughing at all us farangs trying to pronounce the names of hospitals in thailand. If they are so popular why are they so difficult to say.
I have already pissed the doctor off i am going to see. "Your at where,? what hospital," Bumrang rang ? What .where . ?oh bum fk bangkok . ok see you saturday click ! "

The stents are probably subject to the high tariffs for imported goods, therefore the costs could be higher.
